— GONE SOUTH, by Robert McCammon

This is a good story. I’m liking it a lot. It’s been fighting Stardew Valley for my attention span and winning. #books

Reviews.

Reviews are free AND they are a gift to authors that can keep on giving (i.e., exposure, marketing, algo boosts, etc.)

Please, give the gift of reviews to your authors this holiday season. It really can make a difference!

I know there's a lot of negative reactions out there to "Starfleet Academy" and how it looks like 90210 in space, but c'mon... you tell me Gina Yashere is going to be the first officer and expect me not to watch? I want her channeling her Nigerian mother while she barks orders at cadets.

I started reading Robert McCammon's GONE SOUTH on my dinner break. It's my 1992 pick for the #MyNovelLife reading challenge. My break ended just as I finished the second chapter and my reaction was "Nooooooooooo!" because I wanted to keep reading. Silly job gets in the way... #books

I finished Rick Riordan & Mark Oshiro's THE COURT OF THE DEAD, the Percy Jackson spinoff series featuring Nico di Angelo and his boyfriend Will. Good stuff. #books

I was approved for an ARC of T. Kingfisher's WOLF WORM, which is coming out near the end of March. I've been meaning to try some of her novels, and now I have an excuse to dive in. #books

When I work out my list of the top ten books I read this year, it’s going to be a coin toss between Joe Hill’s KING SORROW and S.A. Cosby’s RAZORBLADE TEARS. Just an incredible story that went places I couldn’t have predicted. I could’ve spent another 900 pages with these characters. #books

My #FridayReads update… I’m about halfway through Rick Riordan & Mark Oshiro’s THE COURT OF THE DEAD (ebook), and halfway through Joe Hill’s KING SORROW (audiobook). Good stuff so far. #books

I don't use any of the music streaming apps enough to have cool stats to share, but I look forward to posting my reading stats from Fable in a couple weeks.

YOU CAN SCREAM is a decent thriller. It's not easy jumping into a series in progress, but Rebecca Zanetti did a good job of establishing characters and their history. Laurel's half-sister would make Hannibal Lecter mutter "That bitch is crazy." I might have to read the early #books at some point.

I started listening to Joe Hill's "King Sorrow." In the first chapter, a guy is visiting his mother in prison and makes a joke about a book called "Escape in 10 Easy Lessons." That joke was made in "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption," so nice tip of the hat to his dad if deliberate. #books

It took forever to get my first Ancient Seed in my current Stardew Valley run, but my Ancient Fruit Wine empire is starting to come together. I love that exponential growth of one plant to two to four to eight to eventually taking over Ginger Island. #gaming #NintendoSwitch

My #FridayReads update... I'm nearing the end of Rebecca Zanetti's YOU CAN SCREAM. I'll likely finish it tomorrow and then write my review. I'm also near the end of Laurell K. Hamilton's BURNT OFFERINGS (audiobook). After that? More hockey smut sounds good. #books

I love this movie just for John C. McGinley as a gay gunfighter.

SLADE: The name's Slade.
JULIAN: Super. Here's an idea. Why don't you spell it out for me so I can get it right on your tombstone.

I lost the Read What You Own challenge. I held out three weeks without buying a new book, which is still pretty impressive for me. A former coworker has a signing coming up for her newest book and I lost the challenge by buying a copy for my Kindle. I’ll buy the paperback at her signing. #books

My dad died on a Black Friday, so I always forget the actual day until it lands. Today makes nine years since cancer took him, after Trump was elected the first time but before he took office. If Dad were alive, he'd be calling me every day asking "Did you hear what that asshole said this time?"

I started listening to Laurell K. Hamilton's BURNT OFFERINGS. I like the first nine or ten Anita Blake novels, but I always lose interest in the series when it makes the switch to her banging monsters left and right. #books
