There’s obviously a lot to unpack here … from undisclosed private donors… to the lack of approvals and review…

But what no one seems to be focusing on:

The capacity was 650 seated people at the July announcement.

The White House has said it will disclose information on who has contributed money to build the ballroom, but has yet to do so.

Short-person hat: At 5’2” I’m definitely getting less show for my money on the dance floor than in the seats. Also you have to be ready to be on your feet for 9 mins.

The illusion is great almost everywhere in the venue. It’s absolutely perfect the closer to middle center seats you are (blended eye point)

Professional hat on, I like the dance floor because you can wander a bit and see the spots where it does start to break. And the dance floor energy is great.

small poem. i've been playing a lot of "name the 500 biggest urban areas in the US" type games lately to keep my mind busy when i'm fretful

Mapmaking

I occupy my time with memory games.
State capitals, alphabetically; five hundred
blots of population on a map. Tree names,
rivers, Native landscapes and coloniser saints,
conquered fortresses, cities Pilgrims quit.
I study this land like I don’t already know
what matters: where I am safe or forbidden,
which arbitrary borders proscribe my body,
which saints speak up for me, which trees
bend creaking back, repulsed, at my approach.
I frame the failing nation in my mind and think
each blameless piece of language like a wish:
Muskegon, Hialeah, Chattanooga, Tulsa,
San Antonio, Cedar Rapids, Baton Rouge.

Also Gardens by the Bay and SuperTree Grove do live up to the hype IMO.

The supertree viewing deck/walkway is great. Worth going evening for the day to night transition.
