I feel like clarifying this is actually really important in terms of how the scene reads. He's pleading to her to do as he asks while calling her an affectionate nickname as opposed to saying something to degrade her.
Being raised in a conservative christain household is weird because as a kid you're taught lessons about being kind and giving to the poor and not judging people for being different from you and then when you get older they're like "What? You believed that? Ha! You don't know how the world works!"
