The wonderful Tyne Theatre and Opera House celebrates its birthday today, having first opened on this day in 1867 🎂

The auditorium structure remains the same as when it was first built and is one of the finest of its period.

We welcome Lisa Nandy's acknowledgement to CMS Committee that theatres need urgent capital funding after years of under-investment

We will continue working with government to identify how future capital funding can be targeted at theatres who need it most

Fantastic to see Citizens Theatre in Glasgow reopened 🎉

It is a major project in which Theatres Trust has been closely involved over the past decade, including an Advisory review, planning application support and two small but significant grants

We've been advising King's Theatre in Southsea on its plans to integrate neighbouring shop units to improve its front-of-house space, make the theatre more accessible and create a second performance studio

Good news - planning permission has been granted

🎭 Often hailed as the greatest actor ever, Laurence Olivier died on this day in 1989.

He was the first Director of the National Theatre, which paid tribute to him, naming its largest auditorium after him, and a statue of him in the role of Hamlet marks the way to the theatre

Happy #NationalSeasideDay 🏖️

Today we are celebrating a particular type of theatre – the pier theatre

An important part of seaside economies from 1860s but from WW2 many became neglected

There are now only 6 pier theatres left in the UK
