There's such a constant handwringing around calling reform voters racists. "Yes their leader is a racist who pushes racist dogwistles and yes they have racist policies like booting legal migrants out of the country for no reason, but you can't call them racists as that might offend them!"

"Transphobic" like "racist" was coined to describe a reality and a moral valence came along with that description and it turns out a lot of people love the reality - the behavior, the attitude, the structural harm- but will violently resist the idea that their lessers may morally evaluate them.
