Check out our latest paper on #eDNA and metabarcoding data reporting standards 🤓🧬🧪

These minimum reporting guidelines for metabarcoding workflows extend from the physical layout of laboratories through to data archiving enhance trust and reliability in data

The MIEM guidelines: Minimum information for reporting of environmental metabarcoding data
Environmental DNA (eDNA) and RNA (eRNA) metabarcoding has become a popular tool for assessing biodiversity from environmental samples, but inconsistent documentation of methods, data and metadata make...

New publication led by 🌟 undergrad Ariel Wang: doi.org/10.1007/s003...

We investigate Risor ruber, the tusked goby, a tiny sponge-dwelling fish.

Across the Caribbean, we find seven distinct genetic lineages within Risor and discover that two Risor lineages specialize on a single sponge host!

Congratulations to Casey Lab student Marissa Kordal, who recently received a Zale Parry Scholarship from the Academy of Underwater Arts and Sciences!

Marissa studies the biodiversity of organisms on Texas #oyster reefs using #eDNA (traces of DNA critters "sluff off" into seawater). 🦪💧🧬

Parrotfishes help maintain resilient reefs by grazing algae & cyanobacteria, but some also eat live coral. 🪸

In a new study, we evaluated how parrotfish coral predation intensity varies across gradients in coral cover, diversity, & parrotfish abundance across 4 Caribbean regions:

I am elated and incredibly grateful to receive a 2024 UT Austin Stengl-Wyer Graduate Fellowship!

This will support another year of my PhD research investigating the ecological roles of nominally herbivorous fishes in Panamá and Texas using molecular techniques. 🪸🐠🧬
