Should independent artists focus on organic content or paid promotion when releasing music?

I can see the benefits of both approaches m, and obviously you could have a balance of the two. But to me it seems the real success stories always come from the former.

Exactly, people want to engage with other people / artists, not some record label puppet !

We don't have a record label

We don't have a manager

We don't have an agent

We don't have nepotism on our side

We just have our vision and a lot of songs we want people to hear

When we release our music early next year it will be 100% self funded and authentic - our art, our personalities

I hope you got them to sign a t shirt or something 🤣

but at least in 2024 its possible to compete and even outperform the artists backed by labels as an independant musician! its not easy but lots of examples of people doing it using social media etc
