She is! She was very quiet when we first got her, though she's grown out of it a bit now. :)

Haha I hope it's messing in a good way! Thank you :)

This one's about dog DNA! I get asked what breed Wednesday is a lot. (I also misspell Germy Sheppahrerd a lot) #dog #dogcomic
Comic: titled Wednesday the Dog, showing a black pup with pointy ears and a long tail in a smooth coat, with a bit of white on the chest.

Text: when I originally posted Wednesday's photos on Instagram and invited people to guess what breed she was, a lot of people were very confident that she was some sort of Shepard.
Photos: three photos of the same dog - laying by a window, looking up from under a table, and sadly sitting outside in the rain wearing a Costco dog hoodie
Image: a doodle of chekhov wearing a red sweater, holding the dog in their arms. Both are looking up thoughtfully.
Text: and I guess I can understand that logic! If you don't know that I live in Japan, or if you're only familiar with western breeds, any dog shaped dog will look like the most popular one near you: for example, the German Shepard. But even though I'm familiar with them, she didn't look like a German Shep to me at all. So out of curiosity and for the sake of keeping tabs on her health... (a big arrow points to a handwritten message with DNA strands) we did a doggo DNA test! (Thank you to Brandy Saltzman for the coupon)
And the results are in! She's 100% mutt!
Image: chekhov holds up Wednesday simba-style. Wednesday seems happy, and her tongue bleps slightly.
Text: or more specifically, a Japanese/Korean Village Dog! It's not really a breed. It just means she's local!

Time heals all wounds and makes all puppies 200% less scared of things. #dogcomics #dog
Comic: The title shows a black dog with pointy ears in a green collar, wagging a long tail next to "Wednesday the dog".
The comic is split into right and left sides - the left reads "what we were worried about" and the right "1 month later"
The first image is a drawing of a puppy cowering in a crate. "She's so shy..." says someone off to the side. "She may never get fully used to people." Next to it is another image that shows her now: jumping up on the owner excitedly as they say "Hi! I've only been gone for 5 minutes!"
Another set shows the left image as the dog hiding behind the door, shaking. "She can't even convince herself to go out the door. Maybe walks are too much..." Right next to it is the dog in her harness on a walk. She is standing in a stream and shaking around a piece of something green violently. "Girl, you've killed the moss, good job," says the owner from off-screen. "Let's go home please..."
The last panel reads "What we should have worried about" and shows the dog chewing something eagerly while the owner grabs her and reaches into her mouth. "What's in your mouth!" yells the owner. "Don't chew faster, just give it to me!"

Dog tax (she is about 6-8 months here I think?)

More Wednesday comics. She is good at climbing.
Image: a simply drawn comic titled "Wednesday the dog"
Panel 1: Text on top reads "What song is (probably) playing on loop in her head during walks" A black dog with pointy ears and a long tail wearing an orange harness pulls someone along on the leash. She has thought bubbles that read like lyrics: "Climb every mountaaaain~ Fooord every streeeeam~ Eat every bug, and follow every dream~" Image: a simply drawn comic panel. A black dog wearing an orange harness is at the top of a hill, looking down and her owner, who is down below, holding the leash in one hand and a poop bag in another. The owner says "okay, congrats, how are you getting down?" Image: a simply drawn comic panel. A black dog in an orange harness is still at the top of the hill, with the owner down below. The dog looks off to the side, clearly thinking about her predicament. Image: a simply drawn comic panel. The black dog sits down at the top of the hill, seemingly resigned to her fate and content to remain where she is.

This is her at about 4 months! :)
Photo: a black mutt puppy in a green collar. Her ears are half floppy, and she has a triangular white mark on her chest. She is sitting on the wooden floor, looking off to the side.

I never posted any of these here! This comic is over a year old now, but still! #puppy #dogadoption #shelterdog
IMG: A simply drawn comic. TITLE: So we got a DOG.
Panel 1: two people - Chekhov, who's wearing a red sweater, and their partner, who's wearing a blue sweatshirt, standing next to a table with a brown crate between them. They're both looking at the crate in awe. There's a pair of eyes peeking out of the darkness of the crate itself.
"My partner and I recently moved, and have decided to adopt a pup! She's a rescue, about 5 months old. I've had dogs before, but she was incredibly distrustful of us and all people in general at first."
Panel 2: A crate covered in a grey towel. The door is open and a small black dog face peeks out nervously.
"With rescue dogs, there is something called the 3-3-3 rule for decompression: 3 days of hiding/adjusting. 3 weeks to get used to routine. 3 months to fully settle in. I trusted it, but it seemed unlikely that she would ever stop being such a careful and fearful dog. she was scared of us, of the leash, of doors..." IMG: a continuation of the comic "so we got a dog"
"She wasn't used to a leash and panicked when it was put on. She hid when we looked at her, and cowered when we touched her. On top of that, despite being a rather skinny puppy, she didn't seem all that food motivated. But she did eat, and she came out when we were far away enough."
Panel 1: a doodle of chekhov siting on the ground next to the open crate. The dog, barely visible, is cowering inside of it, watching nervously. Chekhov sets down a bowl of food, saying "I'm gonna leave this here."
But boy... the process works.
After 3 days, she began to explore more boldly, let us touch her (not picking up yet, but it's a start!) and even barked once!
Panel 2: A doodle of a black puppy with half-flopped ears, stretching into the longest possible dog, to sniff at something in the righthand corner labeled as "Unknown object (heater)". The back leg is lifted up off the ground, labeled "one leggy up for max sneak".
"We're about to have our hands full with training her, but it looks like despite my initial concerns, she'll settle in fine!"
Panel 3: A doodle of a black, lanky puppy. There is a white spot on its chest. It sits up, looking around with black eyes, and wags its tail. A bit of its tongue is sticking out. There are little wiggles coming out of its head, labeled 'yogurt senses'.
"So, with that in mind, I'd like to introduce you guys to the puppy who will probably spur many more comics yet to come!" Meet... Wednesday!

Gotta figure out what to repost and how old to go I suppose!

I should post here??? Or something??? I was equally bad at this when I had Twitter.

By the way, this was about my dog, Wednesday. She has been with us almost a year now and she is thriving.
A photo of a black smooth haired dog with pointed ears. She's laying on a couch facing the photographer.

“Oh, did a sportsball happen?” I whisper smugly from my vantage point on a distant cliff, the sounds of celebration in the village far below just barely audible over the lonely wind whipping my tattered cloak

Hey, thank you for making an account just for me!

I'm ok with translations! I have said this before, and it's actually written in my FAQ on Tumblr.

All I ask is that you link back to the original comic. :) and please send me a link, so I can add it.

My urge to share a bit of fun irl news is strong but my natural instinct to hide info of any new life changes until they're set in stone is stronger.

I had no time to make this look neat. Is that ironic?
A b&w comic. A person wakes up, looks at their phone in the dark. 7:00, drawn in red. They close their eyes. Wake up, look again. 7:21. The coffee maker turns on. The clock on the wall says 7:52. Its hands are red. The same person picks up the pot and pours a cup as more time passes on the clock.
The cup is set next to a muted tv. On it is a weather map, but instead of clouds and rain symbols, there are red alarm clocks and hourglasses. The TV unmutes: "...a fast time front coming in from the south as the trees are blooming even earlier this year," says the reporter. The screen shows a weekly forecast next. "And over the week, we have some fast time as the busy season at work kicks off, followed by a very slow Wednesday night when the results of the election are expected to come in over the course of two hours, which will feel more like six or even eight--" The TV mutes again. The person leans back in the kitchen chair and sips their coffee. There are no visible clocks.

Sometimes, you wake up and check your phone and it's 7, so you close your eyes. And then you check again and it's 7:20. That means time is fast today.

Sometimes you check, and it's only 7:03. That's a Slow Time day.

It's like time weather. Just depends on the day.

List under: signs I see and chortle to myself about.

For the nice tomorrow... Drug penguin.

Just do it you coward.
Image: a photograph of a sign in an alley. It features a simple drawing of a penguin-like charger with the words: PENGUIN. Underneath it reads: "For the nice tomorrow.... DRUG PENGUIN."

Whatever this is called is my favorite thing. #dungeonmeshi
image: a simple doodle of senshi from dungeon meshi. the top shows him without his helmet, his face shaded and serious, his eyes darkened by furrowed brows. someone's doodled hands are comically holding his helmet above his head.
the next image is when the helmet is slammed down onto his noggin. suddenly the intense serious features are gone, and all you can see through the helmet is the nose, the mustache, and the googly eyes.

Mind you, as the Quote Tweet also states - many creators DO ask for critique sometimes. But we ASK for it - from other writers/artists we respect and trust. Not from anonymous kids who feel like they're big and important behind a screen.
thechekhov.bsky.social
I decided a long time ago that all art and writing advice submitted to me gotta be presented with a citation of your age and experience in whatever you're critiquing me on. "Im Jared and i think you have too many plot holes in ur story (15, never learned how to read)"

People can smell a hiatus a mile away, it seems. As soon as I decide to take march off to sort out some IRL stuff I get
- two separate commissions requests
- three translation orders for the first time in 8+ months
- friends being like "Hey, you wanna do a thing? :)"
I wanna help, but the timing--

Sitting down next to someone else on the bus because no other seat is open is torture. "I'm so sorry to invade your private space and smear my horrid self upon this seat that once held your personal bag and feelings of privacy. I promise I'll leave as soon as possible. I'm so sorry--"
