The Utopia Strong grace the stage at Allendale Village Hall on Oct 23, their most Northern English gig in the North Pennines. The apparently unlikely trio of Steve Davis, Kavus Torabi (Cardiacs etc) & Michael J. York (Coil), is actually a musical brotherhood.

Jafar Panahi’s morality tale/road movie ‘It Was Just an Accident’ wrings absurdist laughs out of a grim scenario, while nodding to Becket, as an accident causes a van full of disparate characters to confront their shared past. It’s his funniest to date although conclusion devastating.

Kristen Stewart's directorial feature debut, an adaption of Lidia Yuknavitch's memoir 'The Chronology of Water' overly insists on itself initially with its breathy Malick-style narration & self consciously tactile & lyrical visuals. Imogen Poots anchors story with raw & vital central performance

30 years ago I had my first piece of writing published as a teenager - an unsolicited review of a friend's band in Newcastle, for @thecrackmagazine.bsky.social

And now I appear to have come full circle.

JESUS CHRIST KINSKI publishes on Oct 23rd 2025.

Mascha Schilinski's 'Sound of Falling' is darkly lyrical & dense study of German female trauma over generations. Dreamlike atmosphere nods to Bergman & Terence Davies as well as horror. Visually striking & eclectic with artful recurring motifs, but 2 & half hour runtime renders it challenging watch

Newcastle says no to fascism.

The far right brought a hundred or so with them, bussed from far and wide. This city turned out 1000s, from local communities, estates and streets. Geordies of all backgrounds coming together and outnumbering the purveyors of hate by some distance.

Newcastle united.
