This bottle of porter has a hedgehog in a top hat drinking a pint, so I’m already about as invested in this as I could be, and I haven’t even opened it yet.

I’m not sure I can bring myself to burn a piece of kindling that looks so much like a horse.

Hmmm, not always a fan of these puddingy beers, but I could sink a few of these.

After some kick back for posting too many Roman pictures (not naming names @drtobydriver.bsky.social 🙄) I’ve had to post pictures of Carn Liath broch to even out the Iron Age balance.
Note to self - no more backlit selfies (🎶oooh-oooh me ears are alight🎶)

I think I’m just going to keep posting pictures of decorative Roman cavalry horse chamfrons from @vindolandatrust.bsky.social and @trimontiumtrust.bsky.social until people start blocking me.

Have some.

#OTD in 1953 the scientific community exposed the (retrospectively) dreadful fake of Piltdown Man; what science has yet to adequately explain is the haunting, complex enigma of Piltdown Boy.

The Vindolanda military standard.
Dated to c. AD200-212, it may have been part of the standard of a cavalry troop, and seen service beyond the Wall in the brutal campaigns of Septimius Severus.

Hello folks. I've been making plaster of paris artefacts/decorations for friends.

I'm opening it up here now - all items incl. postage (UK only, sadly) & gift packaging. I can send things within a week, usually faster.

Anyway, if there's anything you fancy, message/email me! 😊

The base of a 2,000 year old, Late Iron Age Durotrigian style Black Burnished Ware bowl from Winterborne Kingston #Dorset

A series of squiggles were scored into the fabric prior to firing - decoration, doodle or pot-makers mark?

On a chilly morning such as this, let’s imagine ourselves as a Hadrian’s Wall soldier starting his shift in one of the turrets, checking his section of wall, & then upwards on watch duty.
Filmed Tuesday morning, at fabulous @vindolandatrust.bsky.social before the snow!

Always enjoy getting home from a long research trip & unpacking. Relieved to say I resisted the cynical sales drive of northern museum shops to tempt weak & foolish middle aged archaeologists into buying unnecessary Asterix Playmobil sets.
Far too long in the tooth for that 🙄

It’s horrid & cold & barely light out there - so warm yourselves around the glow of this Roman cavalry horse chamfron at @vindolandatrust.bsky.social based on one found in the excavations. Bronze dazzling as gilt & leather smooth as caramel, this is the accessory every little pony wants this Xmas.🎄
