OH SHIT.

Rumor mill: 2026 will be Wout’s last year. Don’t buy it for now, but not inconceivable. Last 2 years have been brutal - multiple crashes, 4 consecutive GTs, etc. He wants RVV and PR, and could still win. But at what cost? He has a nice life outside cycling, maybe ready for what’s next.

The ASO is part of the problem. It exists for its own sake, and the status quo suits it just fine. But this is not 1975, when TV was free and some riders were semi-pro. Pro cycling will not survive as we know it if changes aren't made.

I am from Indiana, where basketball holds the same place as cycling does in Flanders. One of our most beloved pro athletes is Reggie Miller, who, although still a great supporter of the Pacers, is from LA. He is a cycling fan, and met with Wout for some hoops. Wild!

It’s hard for anything to overshadow the Koppenberg, but the mud and the off-cambers are horrific. Just staying upright through the field is harder than getting up the hill.

"They should have told me about Van Aert" is as wild a thing a rider could say as I can imagine. That whole sequence was possibly the biggest blunder I have seen in a lifetime of watching sports. I've tried to think of anything that rivals it, but very little comes to mind.

Lots of fussing about TDF route, but even critics have to acknowledge the marvel that is stage 20. Not only a 2nd finish on Alpe d'Huez, but a return to the Telegraphe/Galibier combo that saw the legendary 2022 attacks by TJV. Will it alter the outcome? Probably not, but not *definitely* not.

Pog just won a race I didn’t even know was happening. He’s so good we can’t even keep up with him as spectators.

I know some rue the end of the road season, but for me part of the joy of pro cycling is that there really is no off season.
Sunny and dry for today’s race, not the typical muddy misery. Great course just the same. Beautiful setting, interesting technical features. LOVE IT.

Del Toro…holy shit. Already on the short list of best riders in the world. One of the best seasons in history for a 21 year-old. At least according to Gemini, the only comps would be….Merckx and Pog. Past result don’t guarantee future performance and all that, but this is getting serious.

People who immediately jump to blaming, or at least questioning, Visma in light of the news about Cian are puzzling. Some comments:
1. A team cannot arbitrarily break a contract. There are surely terms for "cause" in all of them, but neither performance nor injury likely count as such. 1/

While this will surely reduce the stature of the men’s race, as a practical matter the changes do make sense. Good for the women’s race, good for spectators, simpler/less expensive to organize.
Major calendar change as men’s 🇨🇭 Tour de Suisse cut to five days. The women’s race is extended to five days and will be held on the same days and routes as the men’s event.
