With support from the GEF, Lewis recently visited Mount Kenya’s Lewis Glacier – one of Africa’s last three glacier areas – which is expected to disappear within 5 years. Its loss, alongside Kilimanjaro’s, threatens water supplies for around 2 million people.

CITES has agreed to move whale sharks, oceanic whitetips, and manta and devil rays to Appendix I, ending international commercial trade. This does not end the pressure on sharks, but it does give the work ahead a firmer base.
