So let me get this straight. A bar with inadequate fire escape safety routes put sparklers in champagne bottles, which caught fire to the ceiling and killed dozens of people who couldn't escape. And we're calling this a tragedy like it was unavoidable?

Nah bro, sounds like manslaughter to me.

The idea if being stuck in a building on fire is truly one of my greatest fears and I can't believe the horror of the news coming out of Switzerland. It makes me feel physically sick to think about it.

Can someone look at the replies to this and tell me wtf is going on?
Has someone added me to a list or starter pack? I'm getting a lot of new follows suddenly. Which is great, but I'm curious as to why.

Our Solar System is orbiting the center of our Galaxy at about 220 km/s so in 2025 we collectively traveled something like 7 billion kilometers across the Milky Way. Once in a while, when you have a moment, it’s worthwhile to take a look around, see where you are, and appreciate how far you’ve come.

because life is cruel, when I got up from typing this post, I stubbed my big toe so hard that I've split the nail right down the middle. Touché, universe...
Well, thank goodness THAT is over.

I've no way to prove it's true but I genuinely cannot shake the feeling that companies used Brexit as an excuse to whack up their product prices. I'm sure there was an increase in costs, but I'm deeply suspicious of by how much.

Haha remember that time this year when I wrote all those scientific essays about paranormal phenomena and ghost and folklore cultural aspects, and it was a rant about the Muppets having souls that got the most attention? Haha. I remember...

I absolutely adore this Pied Wagtail roost in #Bath. It’s mesmerising watching them. And seeing people’s reaction when they realise that they aren’t Christmas decorations 🎄🐦‍⬛

I've written often about AI and paranormal "evidence" in the context of scientific research. I'm updating the article on my blog and thought I'd best regenerate the AI image example I use.

The first is from under a year ago, the second is from today. This is how fast gen AI is improving 🫨

Issa Rae has canceled her sold out performance at the Kennedy Center. Pulitzer Prize winner Rhiannon Giddens, Peter Wolf, Low Cut Connie, and the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C., have also canceled. Lin-Manuel Miranda has canceled the entire Kennedy Center run of Hamilton.

As a kid, when we drove through Warminster after sunset, I'd sit in the back of the family car with my face pressed up against the window, straining to see alien spaceships in the night sky.

I fear that the Open University have lost the plot. What is this influencer nonsense? I don’t know if I’m just being grumpy but as a current MSc student and alumni, I’m close to writing into them about how weird and unproductive this is

I thought the flu was easing. I didn't have to use a nebuliser for 2 days. Today, it's kicking my ass again. I'm getting bored of it now.

I followed 2 starter packs for people who are experts in raptors/birds of prey, birders, and wildlife photographers. My feed has become 100% more awesome wildlife and birds, and also extremely more anti-fascist as a surprise added bonus. Hell yes!

"You don't get to hide behind scripture while fascism crawls through the front door".

I think that's one of the most powerful sentences I've heard in 2025. Gosh damn!

I recently sorted out my bookcase and donated/sold a number of the books I just won't read again (I have to be wise about space) and found a lot of old horror books I forgot I had, and I cannot wait to get stuck back in. Some of them I inherited, most bought 2nd hand when I worked in a charity shop.
