Spending the Summer outside taking pictures of nature was nice but I am looking forward to September. Cooler, darker days mean more time spent drawing. There’s something about the quiet shift of the season that pulls me back to the sketchbook.

A recent storm took out most of the flowers in my garden, but this low growing rose survived. This is its first full bloom of the season.

It’s that time of year when I see a lot of fledglings out and about. I took this picture of a sparrow the other morning collecting mosquitoes to feed one of its fledglings hiding out in my wildflower patch.

I left the garden for a few weeks, but I came back just in time to see the lupins I planted last year in full bloom! The bees visit these frequently.

It is amazing how much the garden can change daily at this time of year. These tulips went from buds to beautiful flowers in no time. These are the peony flowering tulip variety.

I don’t know what type of flower this is, I didn’t plant it, but it is a really lovely spring bulb that grows in my garden. Its flower opens for the sun, follows it across the sky throughout the day, then the flower closes at night.

Spring is in full bloom in the Ottawa Valley. First the crocus, now the hyacinths. Next up will be daffodils and tulips!
