You know you’re getting a little too into the 18th century Habsburg when you start to buy books on Maria Theresia’s government and economic policy! But I really do want to know how you finance a war against Frederick the Great (especially once the UK is no longer on side). 📚 #histbookchat

This evening I will be mostly reading Nicholas Roger’s’ “The Press Gang” with a Tintagel Harbour Special, which is a bitter, which I suppose is what many pressed men might be… 🌊 📚 🍺 #readingndrinking

I almost forgot: it’s that time of year again when @1805Club sends out both the Kedge Anchor and this year’s copy of the Trafalgar Chronicle! 🌊 📚 #histbookchat

A Tintagel Brewery Cornwall Pride matched with Captain Bolitho, Cornish hero. For the story it helps it’s a bitter as there’s a bitter first officer to boot! #readingndrinking

This weekend, after another delivery from Ken Trotman, I will be designing flags and uniforms on #masterofcommand. I just have the French 3 campaigns to finish before moving on to the Rise of Prussia campaign. 📚 #histbookchat

You can’t listen to Prime & Load pod and not start buying up bios of 18th century generals. In this instance Loudon’s bio. Apparently a German/Latvian name (not Scottish) but he claimed kinship with the Earls of London anyway! He started with the Russian army but moved to Austria… #histbookchat

Ok I’m going to admit it: AI is improving in weeks not months. In the summer these would have been dross. Now they’re a bit average, verging on fun…

Picked up a new book by Phillips Payson O’Brien this weekend. I love his writing and he’s never afraid to “put a bit of stick about” and be provocative. 📚

Having had a little sly dig at our American cousins and their idea that the constitutional monarch George III (and not Parliament) was tyrannical, I thought I better have a copy of this bio. I hear Andrew Roberts maybe even more partial to George than me! 🤴 📚 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 #histbookchat

Another charity shop find. One for @leedavidevansuk.bsky.social and his podcast. I haven’t looked yet but I wonder how much ‘parliamentary violence’ there has been since 1945? I remember one Scottish MP throwing punches in a bar and stories of Heseltine swinging the mace. #histbookchat

Tonight I am mostly drinking Glencadam at Soho Whisky Club. I love this whisky. I discovered it during lockdown and it’s wildly underrated. 🥃
