"For any other director ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK would be the standout masterpiece on their CV. But John Carpenter's ENTIRE output from 1976 to 1988 is one of the best directorial runs of all time."

"I would like RUNNING SCARED just for the pairing of Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines... But between that fantastic car chase, the holiday montage set to Michael McDonald and that shoot-out in the climax, I flat out love it!"

Me, showing my wife a pristine restoration of my long-lost but wholly beloved NIGHT OF THE JUGGLER...

My wife: [sighs] "Which one is the juggler then?"

Me:

Is #DieHard a Christmas movie?

Let me tell you one thing it DEFINITELY is...

"... I still think it's pretty great - it's certainly one of the most assured directorial debuts in cinema - but repeat viewings is where you see Jordan Peele believe himself to be a far deeper and smarter writer than he is."

"You question how this is all going to come together and when it does it's every bit as silly and drenched in bunkum as its trappings always indicated. You wonder why Cronenberg didn't lean into the film's natural vibe."

I'm not going 'early' on my annual Top 25 this year like I did last year, because I have high hopes for the last-knockings release of MARTY SUPREME so I'm holding back. In the meantime though, feel free to check out last year's entry in its 'new home':

Well, it's that time of year again - even a little earlier for me, in fact. And it's the first time putting a 'fresh' one of these out in it...

Growing up in the 90s, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa was the dude you'd delight to see pop up in the likes of LICENCE TO KILL, KICKBOXER 2, SHOWDOWN IN LITTLE TOKYO, RISING SUN, MORTAL KOMBAT, THE PHANTOM and VAMPIRES coz you knew evil shit was gonna go down. I liked that guy a lot. RIP.

"If you can't get Dylan Baker get Dylan McDermott. If you can't get Dylan McDermott get Dermot Mulroney. If you can't get Dermot Mulroney but Dylan Walsh is free just cancel your production because how bad must it be if you can't get Dermot Mulroney?"

"It's the most honest, unabashed hark back to the original run of Irwin Allen productions. It's also a Rob Cohen rarity in that its a film from the notoriously hacky-and-tacky director that actually holds up as a decent 'high cheese' bit of fun."
