Not exclusive to comics but I think people mix up a tragic story with a sympathetic story both reader and writing wise. You can and should feel bad for example Jason Todd, his story IS a tragedy but I don't think it's supposed to be sympathetic. Jason is self destructive and traumatized (1/2)
