In fact, aside that some evidence suggests that “Lilith” was derived from similarly-named spirits in Mesopotamian folklore, most pop culture versions of Lilith have her as a straightforward baby-eating villainess anyway. Hazbin is one of the few times she’s even talked about in a flattering light.

Now, I don’t WANT to unfairly villainize her in Hazbin proper, but anywhere else her name is used, that’s the norm, not the exception. In fact I think Medusa is more popular than her as far as feminist reclaiming of monsters with questionably sexist backstories go.

I was so confused with this take because I thought, “what the fuck does Susan B. Anthony have to do with it?” There’s something oddly tone-deaf about citing a mythological demoness who isn’t even officially recognized in canon as your default example of a “real life feminist figure.”

This is what I mean when I say people rely too much on pop cultural depictions of folkloric figures for their takes.
Because this is NOT remotely who Lilith was in myth. It’s practically backwards: being a feminist icon was *reclaiming* from her literal demonization.
