Owls make up 4.7% of roadkill reported to us. The most common species we receive reports of are barn owls, despite tawny owls being the most common owls in the UK according to the RSPB.

Yesterday we asked you which deer species was the most reported in 2025, the answer to this was: a. Roe deer.

Overall, roe deer are also now the most reported deer species in our database, previously being muntjac deer.

1st - Badger

2nd - Fox

3rd - Deer

4th - Pheasant

5th - Rabbit

On Friday we asked you if we receive more squirrel or rabbit reports. The answer to this was rabbits. We have received over 7,400 rabbit reports to date, while we have received just over 5,600 squirrel reports.

In 2025, our most commonly reported animal was the badger, making up 19% of overall reports. We have recently published a paper identifying badger roadkill hotspots, which you can read here: theroadlab.co.uk/raymond-et-al-2025

Yesterday we asked whether you thought we received more magpie reports or blackbird reports. The answer is blackbirds - which we have received 1201 reports of. In comparison, we have received 865 magpie reports.
