That’s one to be proud of… my last drink 31+ years ago was a flat Natty Light on tap at a “down market” bar. These days, it wouldn’t even rate a “dive bar”!
Congrats on your sobriety! It’s such a better way of living!
That’s real recovery… a nice, pleasant life.

Congratulations… on life!
It's a rainy, cold day here in Norway... and I am getting ready for another #sober #Christmas season... Ho Ho Ho!
That means I am getting all the #sobriety gifts ready to go!
My first bsky holiday season!
Bear with me... please don't bare with me! (that is how I remember which one to use!)
We gave up so much trust in our drinking and using. It can be rebuilt, but it takes time. No one owes you anything because you got #sober - you have to work daily to regain the trust you once had from those you love.

Trust in Early Sobriety: Rebuilding Hope
Rebuilding trust in early recovery takes time and consistency. One mother's honest account of earning back her daughters' belief in her word.

What kind of support do you have in your sobriety? Especially in times like this.. it helps to have someone in your corner, wanting you to succeed!
What's on your mind that is making you feel like this?
If you've avoided AA because of the spiritual language, consider this: You're not the first person to struggle with the vocabulary. Thousands figured it out before you. The rooms are full of people who don't believe in God—people who built meaningful #sobriety anyway.

Interesting corollary: I used to write EXTREMELY technical SOP guides for “certain” military hardware.
One “senior leader” loved snap inspections of field ops, asking for specific config information.
I told each group of soldiers, the correct answer is ALWAYS “let’s check the SOP!” Can’t go wrong!
I wrote the first chapter and it’s feeling good… so we’ll see!
We often think of #sobriety as just not drinking or drugging.
Recovery isn't just about subtracting the bad stuff.
It is about adding good stuff, deliberately constructing a life that felt worth living.
Being #sober is just the foundation for a life worth living.
Resentments don’t announce themselves. They settle in quietly, disguised as being “honest” about people or maintaining boundaries.

By the time you notice them, they’ve already claimed space in your peace.

Thinking about writing a full length book on doing a secular steps 1 2 3 for those who find the language in the big book a bit off putting.
My aim is not to rewrite the steps - not even close - it is more of a way to think about the basics of the program without the god concept.
Interest?

Very fucked up... yep!
Honest... yep!
That doesn't make it good though!
My brain has come up with some REALLY fucked up ideas that were honest to my self.
Then again, I was a really honest fuck up... so...
This one simple trick that….
There’s so much crazy shit you hear in AA… it’s proof that truth is stranger than fiction!
I’ve heard so much human misery, triumph, failure and success… truth and authenticity.
Yet somehow it all works to keep us sober and somewhat sane.
It’s my absolute favorite part of the program!
I can’t say it enough: Norway is the most beautiful place on Earth. It’s “epic” by any measure.
I get to be here… and be here for it… not because I’m rich or lucky.
It’s because I’m #sober.
That’s the foundation it’s all built on.
I’m never bored in #sobriety!

Brunost - brown cheese on a cold waffle - is one of the most “Norwegian” things you can eat.
It doesn’t look appetizing, but it’s AMAZING!
“Contempt prior to investigation”
Dammit, the program “wisdom” seeps into everyday life!
It works if you work it.

…and your arms aren’t getting any longer…
…squinting only works sometimes…

This whole getting old thing isn’t for the weak!

(…but it beats the alternative!)
when I got sober. I dropped one… I don’t know which, and it doesn’t matter. The whole thing started to fall apart.
In essence, that’s my story. You told it in a way that perfectly describes how I felt.
Not that it matters, but some rando internet stranger thinks your writing is awesome! Keep going!
thoughts and feelings in a way that talking does not.
It gives you a record of growth (and setback) to reflect on…. be proud of… or remind your future self how strong you are…
Keep writing! Put it out there!
You may even speak to others… your illustration of spinning plates was EXACTLY where I was
…it forces you to take it all down a notch. Clarify your thoughts. Find the reality… the truth (as you see it at the moment).
It engages a different “muscle” in your brain that speaks to a different part of your heart and soul.
It creates an internal dialogue that allows you to connect with your own
No! No! No!
Your writing is excellent!
Start putting it down.
Some of it will be absolute shit, most will be pretty good.
A few will be inspired.
Do it anyway.
It’s the process that helps, not the output.
Writing helps because you slow it all down. You can’t write as fast as you can think, so…
People always ask the hypothetical “ If there was a pill that would make you able to drink (or whatever) normally, would you take it?”
My answer is no. I’d miss the clarity I have in life and the real experience of everyday living.
I want to feel it. Every bit of it. Good and bad.
It’s real life.
