The good thing about the imminent release of a new PTA movie (other than, y'know, a new PTA movie, yay!) is that my local arthouse cinema Lab111 is programming a PTA retrospective. My tickets for There Will Be Blood, Phantom Thread and Inherent Vice are in the bag.
Shigeru Umebayashi's sorrowful score underneath slow-motion footage of Tony Leung taking a drag on a cigarette in the rain or Maggie Cheung walking up and down a narrow set of stairs?

Achingly sensual.
I finally fixed an embarrassing gap in my film history and watched In The Mood For Love on the big screen and

HOOOO BOY

Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung may be the two most beautiful people ever put to film.
Fincher's The Killer has an iconic opening scene. A full 20 minutes (one sixth of the movie's entire runtime) devoted to Fassbender's masturbatory, self-involved, pretentious inner monologue only to end in him botching the job.
Stop it, Lewis Capaldi, stop making me cry.
I'm watching The Return—that movie about Odysseus returning to Ithica after the Trojan War for which Ralph Fiennes got absolutely shredded—and this may be the clearest case of an iPhone face I've ever come across.
This is what I get up to when my partner is away for six days.
I'm watching Across the Spider-Verse (stone-cold masterpiece) and it's taking me the entire evenign because I keep rewatching sequences and going through them frame by frame.

This movie is perfection.
Here's my hot take for this sunday: I really dig the 2017 live-action remake of Ghost in the Shell.
One thing I love about #snooker is that a player will miss a big shot, tap the table with a knuckle and blow a raspberry and the commentary is all, "you can tell he is incandescent with rage."
People who are, let's say, 5'9 or shorter SHOULD NOT be allowed to reserve a seat in the emergency exit row of the airplane.

Sincerely, a 6'6 person.
A hotel giving you that whole "we'll clean your room once every four days to help preserve the environment" shtick is so nakedly cynical it's almost impressive.
Took a train to Busan today. Spotted very few zombies.
That little riff is going to be in my brain forever.
Listen, I'm the whitest boy alive, I live half a world away from the US, I did not watch te super bowl and will never understand the rules of American Football, I'd never heard a Kendrick Lamar song in my life...

... and I'm OBSESSED with his performance of Not Like Us.
I finally watched the final couple episodes of Arcane and it is a tesament to the astonishing animation of this show that I didn't understand much of anything that was happening in this second season and it still packed an emotional punch based on the strength of gorgeous imagery alone.
Listen, not for nothing, but the Robbie Williams movie made me cry
Watching The Order.

In this one scene Jude Law say "fuck" five times but the subtitles has it six times. Garbage movie, 0 out of 10 stars.
Listening to Christmas music.
Age yourself with a movie you saw in the theater as a kid.
Goddamn what a movie.
A benefit of living in Amsterdam is that there's always interesting movie specials going on. Today, while my partner is hosting a gathering I am pointedly not invited to, I managed to catch Whiplash on the big screen and currently I'm seated for Interstellar on 70mm.
