Our young speaker from Exeter said youth mental health support should recognise complexity as young people often face a range of issues at the same time "with multiple factors at play". He added that support should be tailored to the individual, and that it must be accessible and “human”.

The Lancashire PAC team wanted to bridge gaps between young people and teachers. Our young speaker shared the importance of building trust “so teachers are not just authority figures, they become allies”. They designed a toolkit and games to enable conversations that better support young people.

A young speaker from Hull talked about the importance of young people having adults they can relate to. “They want to talk to people who understand what life is like for them.” She shared the Hull team's work creating youth rooms, and their co-created toolkits, helping others to create their own.

A speaker from the Bradford PAC team shared their research into drug culture. “We need to be able to educate people before they’re caught up in the lifestyle. We were shocked by how young people are when they’re introduced to it.” She said young people need safe spaces. “They're hungry for change.”

Describing an interactive film created by the London team of young people, our young speaker shared the value of engaging directly with peers, schools and policy influencers through their researchers. “The most important thing is to roll our research out, get it into the hands of professionals.”
