At this point, there's nothing remotely "skeptic" about Michael Shermer. Perhaps for him it's more of an aesthetic, in that I'm supposed to read things he's writing as though they are being said by a calm voice. But I know he's screaming inside, like every other sexually violent man.

ONLY on Assigned Media: Rohingya refugees from Myanmar have accused the regime of genocide. Some of the most vulnerable are trans.

Crack reporter @mollyquell.bsky.social comes to us from The Hague to report on trans oppression as part of the ethnic cleansing of Myanmar.
Trans Victims Fight for Rohingya Justice in The Hague — Assigned
Targeted for rape and harrassment, visibly trans members of Myanmar's Rohingya ethnic group are among the most vulnerable victims of the regime.

Any Democrats who think they need to tread carefully when it comes to criticizing ICE because of some law-and-order beliefs the general public may have, have really terrible instincts:

1) People hate lawlessness and being victims of crime, two problems that ICE *causes*

2) ICE and local law […]

ICE terrorizing tribes that don't play along with the government's detention center plans has echoes of a lot of fucked up history, but one thing that pops into my mind is Sutter's reign of terror around Northern California, burning down villages of tribes that won't go working in his fort.

The tech industry is full of stupid CEOs who were once brilliant programmers. It's very much an office nerd culture thing to think that "the wrong people are in charge" and to not understand that it's power itself that makes competence impossible.

I think those of us who value free software and leftist/anarchist principles need to have a reality-based view of AI. Whatever position you take, including if it's a hard-line no to all AI, your arguments should be factually accurate so as not to make hucksters look reasonable.

And there's no […]

Dilbert appealed to a lot of office nerds because we're often under the boot of arbitrary and incompetent management. But it usually didn't feel like a critique of power as such so much as suggesting that real meritocracy would be great, it's just that that's not what we currently have. Which is […]

The enemy of my enemy isn't my friend but the enemy of my friend is my enemy. Fuck the US and its allies, fuck its military adventurism. But I have no less hate for the dictators the US wants to overthrow than the ones it allies with. The leadership in Iran are the same kind of religious right […]
