I’m not a #Syria expert by any means. I do know Assad is (was?) a criminal and a brute. But reading up on #HTS, I think the cheers for Assad’s fall should instead be a resigned sigh that the new Syria will probably be a #Salafi state that abuses women and oppresses journalism and dissent.

When I was in high school, I wrote a Swiftian essay on my Xanga page about how, if elected President, I would annex Canada as the 51st state.

Lawyer here. A friend got an “offer” from one of these outlets and asked me to review the “contract.” It literally lacked any clause requiring them to give her money. Two pages, zero required disclosures, host of one-sided protections. RUN AWAY, FOLKS.

If you actually read the entire Levitical law concerning sexual behavior you’ll see the unifying theme. And then if you read Jesus’s life story you’ll see repeatedly His take on enforcing Levitical law via human government. This is why study is a prereq to rational discussion.

I did not see it before now. Any sexual contact outside marriage is sinful in Christianity (and abominable per the OT), but Jesus firmly rebuffed the Old Testament worldly penalties for sin. Christians should not support state oppression of SOME “sinners,” because we are ALL sinners.

The Crusades had zero Biblical root or authorization, involved atrocities to God, and predictably failed in the end. The fact that non-Christians still associate them with Christianity today is evidence of why Christians should not tie Christianity to state actions.
