Next week plays host to one of my favourite events of the year, the BYTE Conference!

This event is always a great experience and provides essential PD and networking for Manitoban educators.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there next Friday!

Literacy in the digital age includes knowing who is behind the words you read online

Meet Audrey & Kirsten, MERLIN’s communications team. We are who is behind the screen writing emails, sharing updates & helping tell MERLIN’s story across our digital channels

Technology only works when people trust the systems behind it: the tools, the data, the processes, and the decisions.

This trust doesn’t happen after a new software is implemented; it’s designed in from the start.

If a groundhog can predict the future by popping out of a hole, imagine what consistent systems can do.

In education and technology, trust isn’t built on surprises; it’s built on patterns.
- Reliable infrastructure
- Clear governance
- Support that shows up day after day.

Today's @merlin.mb.ca Partner Program Meeting has left me energized and inspired. There is so much to learn when we gather together and today was a full agenda!

I'm thankful for the opportunity to have participated as panel moderator and *part time* emcee.

One of the most important digital skills is knowing when to NOT reach for a tool.

Sometimes a conversation is better than an email, thoughtful judgment matters more than automation, and asynchronous work respects time and focus.

The jetlag may be settled but I am still processing everything that I learned last week at BETT

Being able to network & learn from the ed tech softwares that I use everyday was invaluable. Qs that I've had, troubleshooting I've been curious about, opportunities I didn't know existed; all solved!
January 27, 2026 at 7:00 PM
Day 1 at BETT was an absolute whirlwind! With over 35,000 people from 125+ countries, the sharing and networking is beyond anything I've ever experienced.

Bring on day 2!

This evening I’m attending a ManACE meeting; an organization I’ve been proud to serve with since 2013. Shout out to Mike Nantais for taking this photo to commemorate my first meeting almost 13 years ago!

I encourage you to check out ManACE's website and follow along with them online to learn more!

Strong digital systems aren’t just about tools, they’re about shared understanding.

Clear file naming, purposeful meetings, and a single source of truth help teams collaborate more effectively and spend less time untangling confusion.

January is often when we’re tempted to add more: more tools, more initiatives, more goals. This year, I’m thinking differently and, if you missed it, on Friday I shared some of the things I am getting rid of. Intentional digital practice starts with asking WHY before asking WHAT.
January 12, 2026 at 9:35 PM
This month’s focus on intentional digital practice has me paying closer attention to what I don’t need to do.

This isn’t about restriction; it’s about choosing what truly supports how we work and learn.

We kicked off 2026 strong at Whiteshell School District where we spent a full day dedicated to the purposeful integration of technology. Their full district came together to explore the role of educational technology within their individual roles.

Thank you for having me!

January is shaping up to be a month of connection, learning, and momentum.

There’s something energizing about the new year and I can’t wait to bring those experiences back to the work we’re doing at MERLIN. More to come as these adventures unfold.

Whether your holidays started on Monday, or are upcoming, I'm finding that we are in a period where digital wellness becomes less about productivity and more about intention.

- setting out-of-office messages
- turning off notifications
- creating a return plan
