That’s a healthy perspective to have.

I’m seeing a lot of weird impatience elsewhere. People want the team to win/be competitive and get rid of all the bad players…but they also want the Pens to win the draft lottery. Rebuilding is hard enough without demanding miracles.

A reminder:

The Penguins rebuild isn’t close to over. Any improvements they’ve made since last year (5 on 5, 45/81) are balanced by the dead weight they’re dragging from last year (everything else not named Crosby).

They’re at least a year away from these losses actually meaning something.

I’m looking at this season like a combination of auditions and dress rehearsal. We’ll see which of these players will earn the ability to still be around when the team is good. It could be several of them, or it could be none.

Ville Koivunen has been sent down to WBS to make room for Rust.

Looks like he’s going to take the Rutger McGroarty path from here on out. Koivunen just doesn’t have it right now.

In fairness to all concerned, the ability for Karlsson to go balls out inversely correlates with a team’s intent to compete.

The new Pens jerseys are good in an understated sort of way.

I’m not sure that the triangle wouldn’t have made the front too busy, so I’m ok without it.

They are going to confuse me in highlights from afar based on the similarity to Nashville.

A lot of what Kindel was doing was pure young Jordan Staal. Defensively sound. In the right place basically always. Clever passes. Blocking shots. Going to the battle areas without hesitation.

Those are the things that can let an 18 y/o stick around, because they never go out of style.

Why wait until then? McDavid’s on a two year deal. Trade for him next year and then sign him. They could sign 4 of him at that price based on the available cap space.
