Apple’s executive exodus sends a signal about its AI strategy
Apple (AAPL) is undergoing a major shake-up among some of its highest-ranking executives. The exodus includes Jeff Williams, the now-former COO and previous frontrunner to succeed Tim Cook as CEO; AI chief John Giannandrea; governmental affairs head Lisa Jackson; design vice president Alan Dye, who is moving to Meta (META), and general counsel Kate Adams. In a vacuum, each move would seem like the kind of thing that happens during the normal course of business at a massive company like Apple.

‘People are upset’: What Alberta’s anti-separatist worries about now
And then he shares a story that shocked me, about what he calls the “lost boys.” A Nova Scotia mayor told him, “Thomas, we have a problem with Albertans,” because many Nova Scotians go to Alberta for work and then come back radicalized, or at least angry. Most of the people protesting a federal gun “buyback” program in Cape Breton worked on the rigs in Alberta, he said.

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka central bank’s local swaps are a ‘hot money operation’, members of the parliament’s Committee on Public Finance have warned, amid concerns over its inability to build reserves in 2025. The COPF has also made a discovery that domestic inflationary swaps are not considered a reserve related liability that is deducted by the central bank when arriving at its own Net International Reserve (NIR) number.

The Trump administration’s data center push could open the door for new forever chemicals todayheadline
This story was originally published by Wired and is reproduced here as part of the Climate Desk collaboration. In recent months, the Trump administration has opened a deregulatory floodgate in the name of building more data centers. Among other things, this has involved ordering rollbacks of clean water regulations and opening up public lands to coal mining. Now, it’s turning its eye to chemical regulation with a new policy that could, experts say, potentially fast-track the approval of new chemicals for use in the U.S.

With one small step for AI, Chinese scientists make giant leap for humanity
Imagine a robot that could tie your shoelaces to the perfect degree of tightness, or a robotic hand capable of performing abdominal surgery and then suturing the wound with impeccable precision. You might assume these feats would rely on complex electronic sensors, and yet a breakthrough by Chinese scientists has made it possible for robots to rival the skill of experienced surgeons – even with their “eyes closed” – using just a simple knot.

Vancouver’s Cinderella run to MLS Cup falls short but brings hope for 2026
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- It literally wasn't easy to reach this point. In what will be a 5,564 mile round-trip, the Vancouver Whitecaps crossed three time zones, an international border, and essentially the continent of North America itself to face global superstar Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami roster at Saturday's MLS Cup match. Considering the additional travel they've done this year in separate competitions like the Canadian Championship, and the international Concacaf Champions Cup, there may be no team in CONCACAF -- or perhaps world soccer -- that has covered the same amount of miles as the Whitecaps.

What can you do if you get your period in space? Scientists are making that question a little easier to answer by testing how well a menstrual cup, a popular reusable period product, holds up against the pressures of space flight. In 2022, a research group called AstroCup placed two menstrual cups on an uncrewed rocket flight that lasted about 9 minutes after launch and hit an altitude of 1.9 miles (3 kilometers).
