Make it a bit more original >:V
I'm missing the supernatural connection here, simple espionage has been done many times
February 13, 2026 at 2:42 AM
I think you lived a bit too long in russia already. xD
I'll set up point to point wireless links with other nerds if it ever gets THAT BAD
February 13, 2026 at 2:32 AM
Well, can't exactly regulate that if it's well fenced off and not accessible to random public visitors. So I'm not that worried about that.. it'll just be a bit harder to reach other people on the mega surveillanced open web
February 13, 2026 at 2:25 AM
Yep. The governments will only ruin all of the public internet for everyone, it can be survived in closed circles! 8D
February 13, 2026 at 1:57 AM
Right. Don't worry about that, their pricing is just for their own hosting services. You can just set up your own synapse homeserver or pull a docker image / set up a docker-compose on yer droplet and it'll all be OK
February 13, 2026 at 1:55 AM
Yes. We are a strange species, habits and known patterns are very difficult to alter at any scale :V
February 13, 2026 at 1:44 AM
Well, or smaller things that people host just for their friends. It'll take away the whole global scaling effects though.
February 13, 2026 at 1:41 AM
well you can run your own matrix homeserver and just chat with your friends there. In that case obviously that won't need to happen. But yush, public instances will have to check for age.
February 13, 2026 at 1:40 AM
Usually they offer to host for you and still call it self-hosting. But there's usually a button or link to their github or code repo where you can download the files you would need to actually host it all yourself, for free. Without payin' anything.
February 13, 2026 at 1:39 AM
It's kinda like you trying to pick another landmine to step on by looking at which of them has the prettiest logo on the casing.

Doesn't really make much difference to the end result, yeah? UwU

Give it a bit of time to see which self-hosted things gain more traction. And befriend techy people ;V
February 13, 2026 at 12:24 AM
You can't evade the age verification shit by switching to Stoat.

Stoat's company sits in the UK.
Who age scanned first? 👆️

Matrix.org's public instance also will age scan matrix.org/blog/2026/02... (4th paragraph)

If it's a free corporate offering you will have the same result sooner or later.
February 13, 2026 at 12:24 AM
I keep seeing two terms being confused in regards to the age verification stuff.
Privacy and Anonymity.

Nothing about discord EVER was private. All the messages/DMs are unencrypted, they scan them all, read them all, they see your PP pics.

That age verification shit is demolishing > anonymity <
February 10, 2026 at 6:46 PM
Having a stable persistent gallery is pretty necessary if all you've got is fast-lived socials like this here. You can also ramble longer thoughts into the descriptions P:
February 10, 2026 at 5:38 PM
It's not the service that raises this as concern to me. It's the advertisement industry and attached surveillance industry. That data is insanely valuable to profile and police people with. It is worth actual money and readily being sold without regulation or oversight. I prefer remaining anonymous.
February 10, 2026 at 4:20 AM
Yes. And I am fully onboard with the basic concept.
I want kids out of my areas of the internet.

I am 110000% opposed to the anonymity-destroying, privacy-violating technically inept cheapskate ways of them doing it though. There *are* better ways, all of our ID cards can already do this digitally!
February 10, 2026 at 4:16 AM
What if it's not the video, but a hash of your face biometrics, sufficient to identify you.

A small blip of data that won't really stand out a lot in the noise of their usual telemetry+tracking that leaves your device?

Or just a derivative, like a few bits that encode your haircolor and skintone.
February 10, 2026 at 4:13 AM
I mean why wouldn't they. Corporations and governments are just like people, once they see an excuse they'll just do it too.
"BUT THEY DID IT FIRST, not our fault!"
February 10, 2026 at 3:59 AM
So with discord doing the age ID bullshit now, bluesky should be next right? They haven't enforced it globally YET ..

Hmm.
Well worry not.
Where there is a thirst, there is a way to serve lewd artworks.

Clearly using venture capitalist funded corpos was a mistake, they aren't good for anybody.
February 10, 2026 at 3:53 AM
Well yes. But that data will not be stored because you'll be kept in the labs for testing anyway B]
February 10, 2026 at 3:26 AM
Time will tell if people do cancel their nitros and keep them canceled. The filesize restrictions are pretty annoying after all.
February 10, 2026 at 2:49 AM
Oh! My mistake for assuming a less than catastrophically bad thing 8D
February 10, 2026 at 2:46 AM
I don't believe a word of their promises.
Look at what they promise, and look at how they act. Those two things don't sing together in harmony, they're dissonant. Discord doesn't act like a company that has their users in mind, they act like all big corpos. Maximize data retention and profit.
February 9, 2026 at 9:46 PM
Well they will want video or moving footage I guess. Then again haven't looked into that kinda stuff yet, but might
February 9, 2026 at 8:29 PM
UwU

Hell has to freeze over before I'd hand my face or ID card scan to a company like discord.
Or their cheapskate incompetently vibecoded smelly-ass third party age verification companies that can't keep face selfies from leaking out.

NEVER.
February 9, 2026 at 7:34 PM
I'm currently looking into self hostable alternatives also.
zulip.com
This seems somewhat of a hybrid of a forum and a chat platform, could be something that works with people... hmmm.

I mean personally I miss classic forums but nobody uses them anymore -A-
