On 22 November 1963: C.S. Lewis dies.
Lewis was an Oxford colleague and met #Tolkien regularly with others as part of the literary group The Inklings. Lewis wrote the popular Chronicles of Narnia series.

A very happy 101st birthday to Christopher #Tolkien!
Most of what we know about Middle-earth is thanks to Christopher who posthumously edited over 20 books. He sadly passed away over five years ago, but please raise a glass, and toast Christopher's service to us all. Namárië. #BookSky

On around this day in First Age 495: Tuor, guided by Voronwë, passes through the Seven Gates and reaches Gondolin. He delivers a message from Ulmo to King Turgin that the Elves should leave Gondolin. They do not.

On 18 November 1980: #Tolkien's Unfinished Tales was published in the USA. It contains a selection of stories going back to the First Age as well as one of our most comprehensive descriptions of the island of Númenor. Yesterday a new 40th anniversary edition was published.
