Yeah but she lost, that's the point. Stand for nothing, fall for anything.

I'm not a pundit, and I don't know why the American centrist electorate think that they should assume that role. Fight for what you believe in, not for what you think will be broadly popular.
January 17, 2026 at 12:30 AM
this is just punditry and triangulation. tried and tried again. doesn't win, and if it does, doesn't last. we don't need a frankenstein, we need a visionary. kamala was exactly what you're describing.
January 17, 2026 at 12:19 AM
Sorry, I just don't think you're reading the landscape right. Everyone is not going to get out and vote, but the only chance is to energize non voters. A leftist candidate can do that. Newsom can't.
January 17, 2026 at 12:18 AM
Umm, Bernie was in the primary as a Democrat. And had a gigantic grass roots movement behind him. That's literally how you do it.
January 16, 2026 at 11:54 PM
let's not pretend like the primaries is some kind of objective and democratic process, because if they were Bernie Sanders would still be in the White House.
January 16, 2026 at 11:05 PM
that's the spirit, my good bitch. mask off.
January 16, 2026 at 11:04 PM
in a 4 year perspective, you’re probably right. In a historical perspective, centrism and fascism are symbiotic
January 16, 2026 at 10:50 PM
And I’m saying if Newsom is one of the options, I would vote third party.
January 16, 2026 at 10:46 PM
4 years of Biden tore this country apart, when it needed to unify. Newsom would have the same effect. It's a win for fascism either way.
January 16, 2026 at 10:37 PM
If the status quo can only be challenged with fascism, fascism has already won. That's why we can't afford centrists right now. Centrism is fuel for fascism.
January 16, 2026 at 10:36 PM
Would it have been worse with a second Trump presidency right after the first, or is it worse to have it now? Does it matter? Biden brought us Trump 2. Biden didn't abolish ICE, and now they're terrorizing people. Biden slandered "Defund the Police", and police killed more people during his tenure.
January 16, 2026 at 10:36 PM
Pritzker är väl den som ligger bäst till i nuläget, men det är ju två år kvar. Problemet med Newsom är att han kommer från exakt samma skitgäng som Harris (Willie Brown protegeer), och skulle förlora på precis samma sätt.
January 16, 2026 at 10:31 PM
OK, so are you just declaring wishes? Because I'm not saying the left shouldn't vote for Newsom, people can make up their own minds, I'm saying the left *won't* vote for Newsom. And that yes, the Democrats will indeed lose if he's the candidate. He's literally from the same corrupt gang as Harris.
January 16, 2026 at 10:29 PM
Then, again, I urge yo to work hard against Newsom in the primaries, since it's pretty clear that he's not going to get leftist votes. I would rather vote third party then Newsom. What is exactly would Newsom do? Fund ICE even more and then hand the reins to Vance in 4 years? Hardly better.
January 16, 2026 at 10:23 PM
Trump now, or Trump later. We did this with Biden. and here we are.
January 16, 2026 at 10:21 PM
Also, DSA alone has almost 100 000 members, no need to put quotes around the left. We exist!
January 16, 2026 at 10:20 PM
that's a misunderstanding. the election is both about how popular and how repellent a candidate is. if newsom, bolstered by mainstream media, wins the candidacy, and the left won't vote for him, he loses. so if the Dems care about winning, they put their energy somewhere else.
January 16, 2026 at 10:19 PM
I don't think anyone here disagrees. The Democrats keep treating the left in the U.S. as passive supporters, and we're not. We believe in other values than the Democrats. So if the Democrats want to win our votes, they have to appeal to those values. If they opt for moderate Repubs, so be it.
January 16, 2026 at 10:18 PM
A third candidate gains traction if the bipartisan candidates don't appeal to enough voters. Again, the point of this thread, right? Here is a bunch of people saying "we will not vote for Newsom". Hopefully it's in the calculus before the primaries.
January 16, 2026 at 10:14 PM
I think it's pretty telling that you think of a transphobic centrists who hates poor people and loves billionaires is "irritating". I see it more as "will sow the seeds of an even more efficient fascism", i.e exactly what Biden did.
January 16, 2026 at 10:11 PM
The thing is, you are imagining the left in the U.S. as Democrats. I'm not, most of us aren't. So if we're to vote for Democrats, the Democrats need to put up a candidate that is palatable to the left. Newsom isn't. Hence, Newsom will lose. That's the math.
January 16, 2026 at 10:10 PM
It's weird that you are in this thread without hearing what's being said in the thread. The left will not vote for Newsom. I.e. that ticket will lose. Also, Newsom is not a fighter, which is kind of the point of the original post.

THE PROBLEM ISN'T TRAINING. Jonathan Ross was a 9-year veteran of ICE, and his quick-draw shooting of Renee Good was smooth and practiced. The answer to brutality isn't better-trained brutality, the answer is to abolish ICE root and branch
it actions like this that make people, especially gen z, despise the democratic party. what are we doing here

this kind of candidate is how we got Trump
