Finally (for today), here's my retrospective on Alex Ovechkin's 20-year "mission" to break the NHL goal record.

"Still the same big kid" with the big shot who told himself "I've got to play good" before his first NHL meeting with Sidney Crosby:

Pierre-Luc Dubois' last shift ended with 6:44 left in the third period. Spencer Carbery said he left the game with an undisclosed injury and is still being evaluated. Caps are off tomorrow, so likely no further update until Tuesday

Ovechkin ➡️ Beauvillier ➡️ Là où grand-maman cache les biscuits!

It seemed like a matter of time when the game started before Beauvillier ended up back with Strome and Ovechkin and there he is deflecting in Ovechkin pass/shot to give Capitals a 1-0 lead.

Sonny Milano's last NHL regular season game was 340 days ago, on Nov. 6, 2024. An upper-body injury he suffered that night caused him to miss the rest of the season. He's back in the lineup for the Caps tonight, almost a year after his last game

Charlie Lindgren will be the Caps' starter in goal at Madison Square Garden tonight. Other lineup changes are TBD; Spencer Carbery said they're "working through a few things" and that we'll find out in warmups.

Matthew Schaefer plays a game-high 26:04 and scores his first NHL goal in his second NHL game, but Isles cone up short 4-2 vs. Capitals.

Here's the ruling from the NHL Situation Room on the Capitals' challenge for the Islanders' second goal -- Matthew Schaefer's first NHL goal. Ruled the puck deflected off Bo Horvat's arm, not his hand.

Ryan Leonard scores after the PP expires. First NHL goal vs. a goalie.

Capitals had a lot of pressure on that PP, both units, and eventually it paid off when Leonard's shot, which was going wide, deflected in off Mayfield.

Martin Fehervary tore the meniscus in his right knee the last time he played in that building on April 15, ending his season.

Scores the opening goal there tonight 1:50 in.

This will NOT be Alex Ovechkin's first game at UBS Arena since he broke the NHL goal record there on April 6.

He played there again on April 15 and had an assist in 3-1 win. Dylan Strome scored all three Washington goals.
