Not a dumb question at all! On the contrary, this type of method has been tried a number of times (e.g. www.cell.com/current-biol... ). Definitely something to look at in the future!

Lophophorata is monophyletic!

Super excited to see this work out in Current Biology - we sequenced a phoronid genome and used shared chromosome fusions to confirm the monophyly of Lophophorata.
