On this day 41 years ago, late creator Britt Allcroft and director David Mitton first created a television show about Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends adapted from The Railway Series! So Happy 41st Anniversary to Thomas and Friends and may your legacy continue for generations to come! 📺🚂🛤️💙

Rest in peace, John Baddeley (July 16, 1933 - September 13, 2025) who has died at the age of 92. He will always be best remembered for providing the voices of Top Hat, Zip, Shrimpers, Puffa, The Quarry Master and One of the Pirates in Tugs in 1989.

Just recently we had just lost John Baddeley who passed away a few weeks ago, he was well known for voicing Top Hat and Zip in TUGS! God Speed John, you will be missed! 😔🕊️🚢⚓️

Thanks Ian McCue for your time on Thomas the Tank Engine. Even if the brand has gone through a rollercoaster journey, at least you cared about the original series, especially w/ the 1983 Down the Mine pilot.

It had nice animation, and a variety of rolling stock that the engines pulled unlike the later eras where they pull red trucks for goods trains. Plus some episodes aren’t all too bad

Another big surprising factor from Magic Railroad's production - one of Britt's earlier production scripts would've included more characters like Oliver, Toad, D261, Mavis, Rusty, Bulgy and Caroline from Sodor - and JB King, Schemer and Barton Winslow from Indian Valley. Now that's one selection.
