One of the most useful lotteries around! Who needs million dollars when you could have an Airspy product?? https://twitter.com/lambdaprog/status/1806341895662022669
Honest Ali sent me his version of a miniwhip antenna. My setup is #AirSpy Mini with SpyVerter, LiFePO4 battery and a fishing rod. There are heaps of RFI in the city, but some bands are clear. Not too bad...
The Olympic flame for 1952 Helsinki Olympics was lit on nearby Pallas mountain with sun rays!
The ski resort has saved thousands of cubic metres of snow for next winter, so they can start early. Also, a big fan! By the way, next sunset is July 18th!
A repeater on the next mountain was accessible, but no reply. DIY end-fed half wave for 20m band works very well!
Some R&R in Levi, Lapland! Fresh air, reindeers and mosquitos! Also, I'm enjoying inference free airwaves! Some voice and digital contacts to EU and beyond (Fiji was a nice surprise!)
Received with DIY helix antenna pointing up, bandpass filter, @Nooelec LNA and GPS locked HackRF clone. Signals from GEO sats are weak because from my latitude they are at most 25 degree elevation. Plus heavy "birch-dB attenuation"
Left of this green line is a GEO satellite in an inclined orbit. Very steady sinusoidal pattern. Almost two cycles in two days.
This looks like a inteference, but there is repeating general pattern. At least in 40 hour scale. Maybe an inclined orbit GEO satellite? That double step in the pattern needs more research...
A quick test with a combination of a rotary actuator and my SatCam. It does 90 degree arc in 150 seconds. The camera goes side to side. Next winter I will control azimuth from warm indoors 🤞
Today's dumpster find: Siemens RK 621 broadcast receiver from the late 80's. Sangean SG-788 re-branded by Siemens. It is in beautiful condition and works 100 per cent! I love analog tuning knobs!
Apparently this is filtering just before the UHF-connector. Interesting detail: red ferrite ring is doing some kind of power measurement? End of RF-autopsy...
Interesting inductor-bridge-thingy (L13, L14) next to this connector! What is that? Looks like it is tapped to ground?
What I understand these are variable capacitors (with plates) and inductors (with caps)
Inside yells analog 80's! Everything's through hole. Only one IC: "LM3900 Quadruple Operational Amplifier". I don't know the manufacturer. Backside of the PCB is quite plain...
It only has this 12-pin plug and UHF connector.
Afternoon autopsy! This TeleCourier branded RF-thing was rescued from a bin. Used to be attached to a whip antenna on top of a building in a big Finnish city. Best guesses so far: Pager system or company wide voice radio net? Any hints?
Okay... I'm a newbie to HF communications. One thing what I've learnt past days: When X-ray goes up, bye-bye goes the HF! 😁 But recovery is quite quick...
The bands are slowly opening, but lots of fading! The view is still nice.
Oh well... I might enjoy the view instead...
The ultimate interaction! I remember I was ten years old when @MacGyver was in Finnish TV (only two channels then in 1987). It was translated "Miracle Man". I thought it was Superman-kinda guy. The first episode blew my mind! I had a mullet and Victorinox knife for many years!
