I actually live in a cabin in the woods and it is not cheap. Propane is outrageous, gas costs to drive into town, constantly fighting back nature from reclaiming us . . . it's a heavy cost. Literally no sarcasm.
And don’t even get me started on the cost of a cabin in the woods. In this economy?!
An unboycottable list—good luck avoiding Amazon, Apple, Comcast, Google, Meta, and Microsoft unless you go live in a cabin in the woods buying nothing and using no technology
Living in Florida for nearly 12 years must have prepared me for Singapore, because the weather is not as bad as the Internet made it out to be. It’s also one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited.
This is very, very cool. Love the explanations you gave of why other sites are broken and in 100% agreement.

The Amanda Shires breakup album is truly one of the most personal breakup records I've ever heard. It's raw and emotional, and this is how a breakup album SHOULD sound.

WOW.
Happy Neko Case record release day to all who celebrate.
If you do any AI work at all, you should be following @koltai.bsky.social.
I spoke to Adriana Stephan for New America's report on AI deepfake pornography being used against women in politics.

This is a serious problem that disproportionately affects women in politics, and I'm glad to see research go towards addressing it.

There’s an alarming trend: newsrooms are stepping back on DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion). The Nieman Lab article shows fewer DEI trainings, many diversity roles disappearing, and less staff exhibiting at NABJ/NAHJ conferences.

AI is a Dyson sphere being built around human creativity, sucking the life out of it.
The people dominating our political landscape, culture, and economy are just so stupid and full of shit it's almost impossible to describe
I wrote about stunt influencer “Lil Tay” joining OnlyFans days after she turned 18, sparking calls to ban the platform. It’s a typical internet outrage cycle, fueled in part by the manosphere, that deflects from the real villains of misogyny and child exploitation.

The Lil Tay saga is intentionally hard to follow, making it perfect outrage fodder.

We're all too online (me too since I got this).
I get a sinus pressure headache with every big front that comes through. Sucks.
Some people feel the weather in their bones. A storm rolls in and so do headaches.

For years, this phenomenon was dismissed as imagination or coincidence.

Now, with sharper tools and more data, researchers are taking weather-related symptoms seriously.
