No child should be afraid to go to school. AB 49 and SB 98 will protect California students and families from unlawful ICE abuse. As Governor, I will always stand up for immigrant families who just want the chance to work, pay taxes, & safely attend school.

Very proud to speak at yesterday’s signing of two critical bills I sponsored to protect immigrant families like the one I grew up in. AB 49 keeps ICE off school campuses and SB 98 ensures families get notified by school districts when ICE is nearby.

Today’s raids showed cruelty, a lack of human empathy, and disregard for the physical safety of citizens and noncitizens alike.

These actions don’t make us safer—they spread fear and tear families apart. California won’t be silent. We fight for justice, compassion, and dignity.

Let’s be clear- arresting somebody for peaceful protest is what petty tinpot dictators do, it’s not something that happens in a democracy. David Huerta and anybody else who was arrested for peacefully protesting should be released immediately.

Education is under attack—because it’s the backbone of our democracy.

They want to dismantle public schools because they know education is the great equalizer.
