Oh wow! I totally missed this. That looks awesome. Very close to what we had initially.

Really enjoyed painting my first 2 Old Umbrey models. They were a real challenge. #warmachine #khador #oldumbrey #miniatures #miniaturepainting

I did the very first sketch for what became the #Ninjago Ras and Arin’s Super Storm Jet, it changed a lot. It was originally going to be more of a team vehicle with some command space inside and a mech that was dropped off the back. I lost the mech sadly, but it was a fun style exploration.
White jet with gold and red accents. It features a long nose and V-shaped engines.

It is hollow, but still quite thick. I don’t 3D print myself, so I don’t know if there was a reason for it to be that thick.

It’s 3D printed resin by, back then Privateer Press. Steamforged Games has bought the game since then, but because of engineering issues hasn’t put it back in their store. The model has a tendency to droop with the weight of the balloon. Hence the creative solution to take the balloon off.

I used some LEGO pieces to make the balloon removable and prevent any undue stress on the carriage while the model isn’t being played with.

It took a long time, but my Sky Bomber is done. Very excited to put it on the table. #Warmachine #miniaturepainting @steamforgedgames.bsky.social

After the switch to Kai and more refinement, I landed on this model. From here, I added the cape and then it was time for me to go on paternity leave. This is where Dimi took over. He executed the change in vision from our leaders on the colors and the expression of the water.

Then it was down to trying to make a mech that was smaller than the Cole Dragon Titan Mech but with as much of the articulation as possible. I built new hips, thigh rotation and ankles. This design eventually evolved into the piston based ankle you see today.

I built a couple of monsters similar to the sketch on the right of the first post that were breaking through the ground with a shattered rock effect, but the bosses preferred this partially submerged design. This is an earlier version with more vibrant colors and stylized water.

Part of the first explorations were a bunch of different models. Here are 2 of them. The one on the left was done by our Design Manager Heiko and the one on the right by Lee and myself. In these concepts, it was a mech with a monster companion instead of an enemy.

I’ll talk a bit about my involvement with the #Ninjago Legends: Monstrosity sets. I worked on the Fire Knight mech. Initially, it was gonna be Jay’s. I started off exploring a Ninjago mech with more of a knight aesthetic. I did a bunch of these sketches before I started building.

Love the yellow shoulder pads. These look killer Simon!

Here’s a look at the very first sketch model, for what became the Nya Samurai X Mech for #Ninjago Crystalized. It was way too big and ended up being switched to Nya’s mech as the writers continued to work on the story. It explored the limits of the new hip/shoulder joint we made.

There’s nothing explicitly left from this model in the final set other than the idea. Of course, it started as a Kai jet, then switched to Zane to then end as a Lloyd set. Lee’s design is much sleeker and streamlined than this.

Now that Lee, (Citysoncreation on IG) has posted his process of the #Ninjago Lloyd’s Jet Mech, I will share the very first concept, I built back in 2022, originally meant for 2024.
Go check out his posts. He did a fantastic job with this set. www.instagram.com/citysoncreat...

Painted up my Razor for #Warmachine. Excited to get the rest of the SKS6 done.

Thank you! I don’t actually. We nailed the proportions and aesthetic on the first pass, so a lot of the later work was mostly color exploration, building/stability stuff.

The Arin car was designed asking the same kind of question. In the end, both models were used very differently in the show, but the idea was to have them up on the cliffs and trees of the Wyldness.

It then went through a couple of different versions by different people, before Lee nailed the final design.

More from the #Ninjago archive! This is the first sketch I did for the Kai Climber Mech. With the climbing theme for the Ninja, we wanted to create a mech that could sneak with them in the trees on the approach of the Shadow Dojo. It features arms that extend into climbing hooks.

It looks fantastic Simon! Love all the decals.

Miniature and scale model exhibition with the #LEGO Design department! So many fantastically talented people and their inspiring works. I even managed to get some terrain painted during the exhibit. #miniatures #wargames #warhammer40k #warhammer30k #horusheresy #warmachine #miniaturepainting
