My dad was tortured by the Gestapo for 4 days and thrown in a concentration camp for being in the Norwegian Resistance. Growing up, he would tell me things he learned in the Resistance. I thought, I'm never going to need this stuff. Here's some of those things #Thread

Militarize the police and eventually the police become the military.

How's that well organized militia treating you?

I consider being blocked by someone I’ve never interacted with the highest form of flattery.

Going to Burning Man this weekend for the first time in thirty years. Apparently it’s a gated community now.

I have since learned there was only 400 people the first year I went.

One of the things I like about having dogs is that they tell you it's time to go outside.

A relative in Norway told me that some Nazis wanted to march through his town awhile back. The town ignored them, the local press didn't cover it, and the cosplay march withered away. You can't ignore the threat, but publicizing it can amplify it in unintended ways. No simple solution to this.

New— Nazis with giant swastika flags marched in downtown Indianapolis on Saturday with two police escorts. They shouted “white power” and said to the woman who took this video (reshared here with her permission) “fuck you, n***** bitch.”

Police did not intervene. I cannot find local news coverage.

Indeed, I will be in an RV with air conditioning.

I am about to go for the first time in 30 years. I have promised myself I will not be a grumpy old man and make fun of the RVs, air conditioning, or the fact that the people there now are the ones we were trying to get away from then.

Back in 1991 in SF someone asked me if I wanted to go out to the desert and scout a location for a party. Had a blast on the scout. Later, about 2,000 people showed up for the very fun party. I thought it had jumped the shark though, because someone as uncool as me was at it. It was Burning Man.
