We're aware that the tornadoarchive site is currently down and are working to fix the problem. It may take up to 24 hours for the site to come back online. Thank you for your patience.

v2.3.1 is live, which includes the 2024 US data and the Philippines data! This also includes the globe view and bug fixes for European environment data and missing wind barbs for all environment data on some machines.

We've also been working on redoing the environment data, including our own CAPE calculations and laying the foundation for the addition of point-and-click soundings in a future version. We were hoping to release this with the 2024 data, but it's turned into a much bigger project than we anticipated.

You may have noticed some curvature in the map on the above image. We've switched to plotting everything on a globe instead of a flat map, which has the advantage of reducing distortion near the poles, in addition to looking pretty cool. This will be released with the 2024 data.
From a forthcoming release: all documented tornadoes plotted on a globe with the eastern North America, parts of south America, western Africa, and Europe visible. From a forthcoming release: tornadoes the across the US on 6 May 2024 with 500 mb heights, winds, and wind speed at 02Z 7 May.

2024 was a very busy year for tornadoes in the US, so it's taken a while to get all the data processed. We're in the final stages of this task, and the 2024 US data will hopefully be released soon. We're also working on getting updated European data from ESWD, hopefully this summer.
From a forthcoming release: tornadoes in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri on 26 April 2024 along with ERA5 2 m dewpoint, 10 m winds, and MSLP at 20Z 26 April.

In our next database release we will have a data void over the Philippines filled with the Severe Weather Archive of the Philippines (SWAP) dataset. We are thankful of Generich Capuli for donating and maintaining the data! You may view the SWAP project on Zenodo: doi.org/10.5281/zeno...

As a first non-introductory post, we'd like to refer you to our BAMS paper that was recently published this summer that describes the features of our tornado database: journals.ametsoc.org/view/journal...
