📻🎙️I was interviewed by KNPR on the community impacts of Formula 1 in Las Vegas. This is a complex sociological case study I have been following since the very beginning. In the interview, I highlighted the importance of balanced strategies that center around the community’s needs. shorturl.at/sCOsu

A few weeks ago, I shared with the students of my “International Tourism” course this interesting, but worrisome, article. Key West in Florida has been studying how cruise ships docking affect the quality of water: it stirs up as much as sediment as a hurricane.

In Key West, testing shows cruise ships stir up as much sediment as a hurricane
Tests in Key West show sediment stirred up by cruise ships, which can harm marine life, routinely exceed federal standards. Key West has responded by suspending the tests.

I was interviewed by the BBC on how Washington’s decisions are affecting travel to the US. I focused on aspects such as the fact that, for the US, tourism is a vital market, and a decline in travel could significantly harm the economy. www.bbc.com/travel/artic...

Marta (my wife) was interviewed by Financial Times on tourism under Trump:

“Travelers are already in a stressful situation and they don’t want anything to make that journey tougher. People are seriously questioning whether they should travel to the US, and that’s a huge concern for the industry.”

I was Interviewed by Next Avenue on quiet travel. I said that people try to escape noise pollution and take a break from the demands on their attention. But, as growing numbers of tourists crowd peaceful destinations,do they lose their quiet character? #overtourism www.nextavenue.org/7-destinatio...

US farmers sold $2 billion of food to USAID. Not any more.

- US farmers provided 41% of food delivered by USAID
- $340M of purchases/shipments are now paused. Over 680,000 tonnes.
- Food stranded in Houston
- Aid stopped in transit.

The situation could pose a fundamental test of America’s rule of law. If the administration fails to comply with the emergency order, it is unclear how it might be enforced. The Constitution says that a president “shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed”
