Contemporary gothics are fun! I loved Mary Stewart growing up.
Definitely know about stacking things!!
Fall seems a great time for a gothic novel to end! In addition to holiday novellas, I did end my Congress of Vienna novel on Xmas eve. It was fun because I learned the French embassy has a Xmas tree. But I goofed and had them playing Silent Night a new years too early...
Oh those settings sound great!
Great details there! I've also struggled with a character's "look" at times - and it can be hard for the character to gel for me without it.
That sounds lovely! I totally think ideally writing retreats are a balance of fun and getting a lot done!
Hi! So glad you could join us! Is your gothic historical or contemporary? I love gothics!
It really is! We were talking on the trip about all the plays we've seen together since M was quite small. Earlier this summer she saw her 5th Midsummer Night's Dream!
We have quite a Bay Area contingent - I'm from Marin and work in Oakland.
Hi! So glad you could join us!
Oh that sounds like a lovely setting for a book too!
Yes, that works if everyone wants to focus. Or if the others who don't just leave you alone...
It's interesting how seasons impact a book. Because of my series timeline I ended up writing in all of them (current novellia is July) - but I particularly love fall.
I always thought it would be fun to think through clothes for a contemporary MC - do you look at magazines/websites?
Yeah, I think they can serve different purposes. With others is great for inspiration, plotting talk. But maybe not actually writing. I had both on this retreat - I did write a lot in the evenings but then after my friend left I had three days with M who was great about letting me dig in and write.
They both sound lovely - and like great story settings.
Hi! Exciting you are making headway!
Amazing! The OSF season is phenomenal - we loved Importance of Being Earnest, Into the Woods, As You Like It, Julius Caesar... And we also had a lovely side trip to Bandon on the coast.
Oh wow! Clothing choices that say a lot about plot and character!
Cool! What is her firm? I have stage actor friends who narrate audio books.
Oh I love how much this says about both of them!
Oh that book - and the holidays - sound fascinating!
