Here’s my thoughts on Super Mario Land 2, included on the @caneandrinse.com podcast.

Wario’s origin. He was not drawn well. But an amazingly fun and short Mario platformer. Worth playing on the Switch if you never played the Gameboy original.

No it’s not. Although I found an English translation ROM for the GBA Rhythm Tengoku and I’m having a much easier time with that one.

Such a quirky and entertaining game.

Maybe it’s the game, a slight delay in the emulation or cause I’m a middle aged white guy with no rhythm.

….well, probably that one.

Yet I used to rock out to Rock Band and have been successful at clearing songs in Beat Saber.

Guess my mind just doesn’t click, my heaven has no rhythm.

In my @caneandrinse.com backlog, I’ve been trying to play Rhythm Heaven for episode 45 (I did say backlog). However haven’t owned a DS in a long time and only have emulation as an option.

But I cannot get past the 1st Remix stage. Might be time for me to throw in the towel. 😩

I think it was @ratsoalbion.bsky.social who said on an older podcast episode that someone’s hated game is someone else’s fav game. I do absolutely love the critical analysis given by the @caneandrinse.com crew on every game and series they cover. One on my fav podcasts for sure.

Part 4:
Samus Returns destroys any notion of peaceful reflection with yet more monsters to fight and a Ridley boss right before you get back to your ship. This was a complete disappointment to me and missed the entire point of the original game's ending.

Part 3:
A time to reflect on the genocide you had performed as you invading their home, yet the metroids are dangerous. And yet Samus decided not to kill this baby metroid and there was time to think and reflect on your actions as you made your way back to the surface.

Part 2:
Instead of this high noise and thrilling escape as a planet or base explodes like in other games, here in Metroid 2 and AM2R there was this peaceful moment as the baby metroid follows you on your way back to the ship.

Part 1:
I stand by my Ridley comment. Adding Ridley at the end after defeating the Queen Metroid and taking the baby metroid with you, while a nice nod to metroid fans from other games, completely destroyed the peace and serenity felt when escaping back to the surface.
