that isn't how things work. on january 3rd, 2027 every single current rep no longer has a seat. it's not like a special election where it's up to the speaker. on january 3rd of next year there **is no speaker** nor is there any "incumbent" house members to do the things you are outlining.

Exactly. there is no mechanism for "cancelling the elections" that isn't also equivalent to a full coup. And people here act like if that happened everyone would just roll over when there is basically 0 evidence to support that. There's no "one weird trick" for this that results in 0 opposition

yeah all of this cancelling election talk drives me nuts. its not like the current house reps continue on. the minute you hit January 3rd every single prior member of the house is no longer a member of the house. you can't just say there wasn't an election without going full civil war.

agreed. my wife and i had to go through ivf for our daughter and the cost is astronomical and basically not feasible for anyone but the upper middle class. it's insane.
