A blue bar is across the top with the Northwest Railway Museum logo and the words "For the rest of 2025: Visit the Train Shed Exhibit Hall on a Wednesday for free admission!" On the bottom is the Museum logo peak shape, slightly transparent in the Museum gold color. Blue text reads "Take a step back through time and learn how the railway changed everything..."

An orange and black trilobite beetle bug costume standing in front of the equally orange locomotive 4024. The person wearing the costume is pointing both hands up at the locomotive like "hey look we're matchies!" Children's performer Eric Ode with Nelson the raccoon, in the middle of a performance. Eric is dressed like a pirate this year. Visitors play an apple tossing game during their stop at the Railway History Campus. Visitors try out an apple peeling tool that also cores and spiral-cuts the apple. Two volunteers are talking to visitors and helping guide the activity.

Staff couldn't resist making this joke, but while you're here, why not learn about real blue stop signs aka blue railway flags at the link below?

A plastic life sized skeleton hanging on a blue metal sign on a post. The sign reads "STOP". In the background is locomotive 4012.
This is also a jokey reference to a popular indie game.

While it isn't quite done, the parking lot expansion is usable, just in time for the Museum's October field trips! It's wonderful to see the cars all neatly lined up in the new lot with nobody, not even staff, needing to use street-side parking!
#trainmuseum #development #NRM
A line of cars filling every available parking space in the new parking lot expansion. The lines aren't painted in and the asphalt sidewalk hasn't been installed yet, but it's usable and that's what matters.
You know you're deep in the museum field when you get emotional over seeing cars parked in a real parking lot.

Tragically, the apples spoil pretty quickly. Museum staff have tried to harvest them in the past while clearing brush and learned the hard way, so please do not trespass on the tracks to try to sneak yourself a spoiled snack.

Another apple tree along the railway's right-of-way. This one so heavy with fruit that it is leaning over a bit.

Did you know this line runs through the site of a former apple orchard? If you catch the train this weekend, look out the window near Bridge 35 and you may notice the trees laden with fruit! Visit today and you can stay for the 4:30pm Humanities Washington talk on apples too!

Did you hear that ghostly wail on the wind?
NP 924 went on a run down the line for some crew training and will next rise again on October 31st for the Snoqualmie Valley Halloween Wine Train!

Steam locomotive Northern Pacific 924 stopped in North Bend, Washington. Mount Si is visible in the background. Behind her for a little bit of added weight, SVRR 4024 can be seen in an appropriate Halloween orange. Two train crew members are checking oil. Steam locomotive Northern Pacific 924 thunders up the grade towards Bridge 35, surrounded by heavy foliage. A cloud of white steam cuts through the green trees. A volunteer stoker sits atop the tender, tossing wood down to another stoker. Steam locomotive Northern Pacific 924 in dramatic lighting at the end of the Snoqualmie Valley Railroad just past Snoqualmie Falls. The harsh sunlight cuts through the green canopy above, shining light on the cab of the locomotive while silhouetting the rest of it. The crew from the training run, posed in front of Steam locomotive Northern Pacific 924 at the end of the SVRR line, just past the top of Snoqualmie Falls.
Steam locomotive operation is much more involved than diesel locomotives and even seasoned volunteers need the opportunity to brush up on their knowledge with equipment that only gets to come out a few times a year.

Starting on October 11th, we begin our Halloween Train! Enjoy live music, hot cider, and cider pressing demonstrations! Costumes encouraged for visitors of all ages!

A child dressed as Shadow the Hedgehog kneels next to a log cabin building activity. A children's interpretive sign talking about homesteading is behind the table and a steam locomotive is behind the sign. Visitors watch and participate in a cider press demonstration. Two are dressed as characters from the TV show Gravity Falls. Dipper helps put apples into the cider press while Grunkle Stan takes a video on their phone. A Museum volunteer, Earl W., operates the cider press. Two children in costume interact with one of the Museum's volunteer conductors next to Coaches 218 & 276. The conductor is dressed as a zombie with a fake arm. A family dressed as Super Mario characters, including Bowser, Princess Peach, and Luigi, wait their turn to try out the apple peeler demonstration. A Museum educator stands by, helping a visitor load an apple into the peeler.

Another way you can support the Museum is by donating your time! We are always looking for new volunteers and have countless ways you can contribute. Have an interest in gardening, database work, decorating, or managing craft stations? We would love your help!

A day early for the autumnal equinox, but who's keeping track?
Last year a staff member took a series of snapshots from the cab of 4024 as the train rounded the bend up by Snoqualmie Falls. Here they are compiled into a gif full of autumn colors!

Second verse same as the first. Looks like we're in for a warm and sunny Saturday and a cooler, possibly rainy Sunday for this weekend's train rides. The leaves are starting to change and fall is on the horizon!

It's a wonderful weekend for a train ride! Enjoy a last hurrah of summer with a sunny ride today or a cooler, Pacific Northwest style ride with a chance of some rain this Sunday.

Are we vibrating in excitement or is that just a vibratory plate compactor? The expanded RHC parking lot is almost done, just look at those perfectly placed pavers! We are thrilled to be able to offer additional parking soon, especially for story time!
#trainmuseum #NRM #development
A low angle photo taken from the edge of the new parking lot. Brand new interlocking pavers tile and stretch off into the distance. Rectangular/brick-shaped pavers add a nice border to the edges. There is a tiny space at every corner of the main pavers, which allows rainwater to permeate the surface instead of becoming runoff.

A little under two hours left to play until the Museum has to come home! Don't miss this unique opportunity to blow a real historic steam whistle and ring a locomotive bell. Here's some road crossing sounds simulated by NRM crew members:

The railway connected the Port of Seattle to the rest of the country beyond the Cascades, previously the only trans-continental connection required traveling down to Portland, OR first. The direct connection paved the way for the explosive growth and development of the city.
