TJA is doing amazing things in documenting news coverage. I was on this tool last night and it’s incredible how much can be drawn from it.
This tool analyzes more than 190,000 articles published in the last five years to show how publications have covered trans stories over time.

We drew from this TJA analysis for our own look, just published by @assignedmedia.org, at the absence of trans perspectives in mainstream media coverage.
Visible, yet vulnerable: What journalists can learn from how we covered the attack on trans rights in Trump’s first 100 days.
One big takeaway: Based on analysis of a representative sample of articles, 70% of stories about anti-trans executive orders didn’t quote trans people.

What does the research say? That common reasons for detransition are just as varied as gender transition ... it's not just about regret. Many still identify as trans. And gender-affirming care bans threaten health care for all.
Detransition is rare, but it’s driving anti-trans policy anyway
Many people who detransition are still gender non-conforming — and their experiences are more complex than gender-affirming care bans suggest.

Detransition is being used as political fodder by the Trump admin and its allies to support extreme anti-trans policies.

In the process, the reality of detransition is lost. For our new series, I spoke with detransitioners who feel harmed by the Trump admin. Their stories are complex and important.
Detransition is key to politicians’ anti-trans agenda. But what is it really like?
