The one solid fact of this whole debacle is that Tasmania deserves an AFL team, and has long deserved AFL representation without having to spend OVER A BILLION DOLLARS to get it. This will go down in state history as an unfair deal.

My opinion of them was low anyway but I will never get over Tas Labor lining up to cheer on a Liberal vanity project instead of the teachers and nurses they are supposedly there to represent.

I’m still buzzing from yesterday. This is what true leadership, equality, and respect for the trans and gender-diverse community looks like. Thank you to everyone who attended. #auspol #politas #LGBTIQA
Thanks to everyone who helped organise and attended today’s gender health care forum in the state parliament, as well as the launch of the new Parliamentary Friends of LGBTIQA+ Tasmanians.

Two decades ago the Tas. Govt put all its apples in a pulp mill. One decade ago it put them in Mona (a $408M loss maker for the owner from which the already propped up hospitality and tourism sectors benefited). This decade the apples are going in a stadium as demanded by vested interests. #politas

It’s clear that there’s momentum from across the Parliament for a free vote as the way to solve the gambling reform paralysis. While my motion today didn’t pass, the PM would be wise to start listening and act #auspol #politas

Some groups continue to use extreme examples to seek blanket bans on trans women, this time in Tasmanian women’s prison.

The current TasGov case-by-case approach is a sensible one that protects all women. Equality Tasmania has asked the Government to maintain and develop it.

Yesterday, the Australian newspaper said Tasmania has banned trans women from women’s prisons. Today, the Hobart Mercury reported that’s not true and the TasGov continues to allow trans women to be held in the state’s women’s prison.

A big thank you to the Hobart Mercury for publishing my article about what remains to be done despite Tasmania leading the nation on financial redress for victims of our former laws against homosexuality and cross-dressing. As you’ll see, there’s quite a bit.

This budget was a missed opportunity to get dental into Medicare.

To make the big corporations pay their fair share of tax.

Instead of focusing on cost-of-living relief, Labor used the cover of the budget to do a deal with Dutton to gut our environment laws.
