For 5.2 million euros, Adif tenders a contract for preventive maintenance of HSL switches and crossings, which will prevent derailments like the one in 2017. In addition, it tenders the profiling of the new switches and crossings.

Both contracts will involve an investment of 7.2 million euros.

GMV equips Talgo’s new sleeper trains for Egypt

Talgo selects Spanish technology firm GMV to supply public address, intercom, CCTV and onboard communications for Talgo’s overnight trains for Egypt’s ENR.

The contract strengthens the company’s presence in the rail sector.

Stadler to build 2 hydrogen trains for Sicilian FCE

Swiss manufacturer Stadler wins a new order for hydrogen trains in Italy. It consist in 2 units (with an option for 13 more) of narrow-gauge trains for the operator FCE (Ferrovia Circumetnea).

They will run on the Paternò-Randazzo line.

Renfe to invest 1 billion in expanding and modernising its maintenance depots

Renfe Fabricación y Mantenimiento is launching a plan to invest 1,000 million euros in expanding and modernising its maintenance depots. It will also implement a more efficient maintenance model.

The plan was announced by Minister Óscar Puente this morning.

Finnish State takes ownership of trains for PSO services

As of 1 November, the State of Finland will be the owner of the company that owns the rolling stock for OSP trains. It is currently owned by the public operator VR.

The State, through Suomen Ostoliikennekalusto Oy, will provide the trains to the operators.

Renfe publishes punctuality reports for all its passenger trains

In an exercise in transparency, since 6 October Renfe has published on its website the punctuality data for all its passenger trains with monthly reports.

They can be viewed in the browser and, in some cases, downloaded.

Tracción Rail and Continental Rail win locomotive leasing contract with Adif train driver

Adif awards the contract to the joint venture formed by Tracción Rail and Continental Rail for the leasing of locomotives with driver for maintenance work on the RFIG.

The contract is worth 5.65 million euros.

The current CEO ruled out continuing in office for another term.

Spanish Congress approves the Sustainable Mobility Law

The Spanish Congress of Deputies has approved the Sustainable Mobility Law in extremis this afternoon, which will now go to the Senate.

It will most likely be rejected by the Upper House and return to Congress, where it will need 176 votes in favour.

Helsinki orders 63 Tango Nordic trams from Stadler

The public transport operator of the Helsinki metropolitan area chooses Stadler to supply up to 183 trams, with a firm order for 63 units.

They will replace the Valmet trams of the 1970s and 1980s.

TfL chooses Indra to manage London's public transport ticketing

Transport for London (TfL) has chosen Indra to manage ticketing and ticket control for London's public transport system until 2034. Cubic Transportation Systems, the current contractor, has appealed the decision.

Adif Alta Velocidad awards the contract for the drafting of the construction projects for the Seville-Huelva high-speed line. The contract is divided into 5 lots and has a total cost of 31.4 million euros.

Travel time will be reduced to only 25 minutes.

Renfe formalises the leasing of Talgo VIs to Leo Express

Two months after the transfer of the first train, Renfe announces the leasing of 3 Talgo VI trainsets to Leo Express. They will be used, among others, the Prague-Bratislava route.

The trains were in use in Spain until December 2024.

Good economic news for Renfe, which closed 2024 with a net loss of only 2.9 million euros compared to 121.5 million euros in 2023. During the first half of 2025 the figures have been worse.

EBIT in 2024 amounts to EUR 68.6 million.

Ouigo Spain to increase trains on its three corridors from 14 December

This Thursday, Ouigo will put tickets on sale for travel until 2 August. With the entry into force of the new service timetable, the offer will be extended to Barcelona, Murcia, Seville and Malaga.

It will expand capacity by an average of 14% on four routes.

Despite the end of free travel passes, in September Cercanías Madrid exceeded the number of passengers in September 2024 and even in the same month of 2019.

Iryo, the only Spanish high-speed operator with private capital, simplifies its fares and worsens conditions. From now on it offers 4 types of tickets divided into 2 classes instead of 6 fares.

They are effective as of today.

Metrovalencia is once again allowing people to travel with a bicycle

From 1 October, non-folding and non-electric bicycles can once again be carried on Metrovalencia's surface sections.

FGV allows it again after re-establishing the service throughout the network.

It will enter service at the end of 2026.

Talgo makes a loss in the first half of the year due to the reduction of ICE L orders

The reduction from 79 to 60 ICE L trains by Deutsche Bahn and litigation in the United States lead Talgo to a negative EBIDA of 16.5 million in the first half of 2025.

Without the extraordinary events, it would have made a profit of 23.4 million.

London DLR debuts new B23 trains manufactured by CAF

The new London Docklands Light Railway trains, manufactured by CAF, begin to enter service. They will renew and expand the rolling stock.

They will replace trains of the B90, B92 and B2K series.
