So I installed a patch to fix some of the visual bugs, and now the game doesn't run properly (lots of slowdown), and it crashed my phone.

Great.
It feels so wrong playing GC games on my phone.

It plays... okay. There were a lot of bugs with the text at first, but I installed a patch, and now it runs at 10fps. Oh boy.

If that’s it, then it explains why a game like Balatro, which has no flashing lights, is fine for me. Prime 2 was also relatively.

I guess the next test is playing Minecraft. I don’t think there are many flashing lights there. But now I must lay down because my head is not feeling great.

Maybe a migraine "cause" breakthrough? I tried playing LeafGreen on my tablet and after ~30min started feeling worse, with headache, nausea, etc. So it's not the screen type that's causing this.

I think it’s the flashing lights on the battle transitions. Which also explain why MP4 was bad too.

Must be my autism speaking, but sometimes I just get attached to very particular things and find them endlessly fascinating.

For example, the Voynich manuscript, the Minoan civilization, and anything with the word "incident" attached (I blame Phoenix Wright for that one).

I just realized why writing contests appeal so much to me. It's because it's a competition where in theory the best story wins. You don't have to worry about marketing, networking, or any of that BS. You just have to write a good story, and you'll be rewarded.

But obviously it's not that simple.

Well, Project Janus is not really a fit for the rom-com they are looking for... so... I'll have to come up with something else.
The latest HF contest details have dropped. The two prompts are "rom-com" and "psychological horror"... and I'm seriously considering on submitting to both of them 🫣

Time for the dual wield ⚔️

Project Mimic fits like a glove for horror, and Project Janus is an idea I've had for this contest.

They are both similar ideas, where a group of characters hides information from one another. Janus' concept was borrowed from Mimic.

The plan is to keep consuming rom-coms while I write Mimic, and then write Janus after getting Mimic done.

We aren't used or prepared for this unlike in areas that get hit by actual hurricanes, for example. The soil is completely soaked and the risk of floods is extremely high.

And tonight it's Lisbon which is gonna be hit the hardest 😬

A lot of people lost their roofs, forests were uprooted, high tension power lines ripped apart. So far 9 people died. Two small cities I know very well got their downtown areas by their respective rivers flood with upwards of a meter of water.

And the rain will continue for about another week.
February 1, 2026 at 10:54 PM
I haven't really talked about it since I've been going through a pretty bad migraine phase, but we have been hit by a series of pretty severe and near constant storms for about a week, and especially 3 days ago a hurricane-force one basically rendered an entire district unlivable.

I hate that everything in life is about knowing how to "sell yourself".

Want to find a job? You gotta know how to sell yourself.

Want you make sure your side projects go anywhere? You gotta know how to sell yourself.

Want to find a partner? You guessed it.

This is kryptonite for someone like me.

I am getting to the point of my writing career where I have enough original characters to make me concerned that I can even write them all properly.

By my count, between full novels and solid concepts, I have 32 characters with significant speaking lines 😬

The good thing is that the game is *literally* on a CLI, which means I can adjust the background to white on Windows instead of it having a menu or smt. Which is exactly what I wanted!
January 31, 2026 at 8:41 AM
So huh... I bought WarSim, that CLI game I was talking about the other day.

And boy, the writing on this is kinda bad. Run-on sentences and missing commas EVERYWHERE. I know I'm a writer, so I am hyper-aware of these things, but it really isn't a good look.

Things are happening on r/CrazyIdeas.

Not sure if they are good things or bad things, but they certainly required the ability to unread something.

And even interacting with people around MY age group is a hit or miss. Are you a socially integrated person who married at 22 and has an 8-year-old kid, or are you a gremlin who's jobless and still lives with their parents? Because both are completely realistic options.
January 28, 2026 at 11:01 AM
Being an almost 30-year-old is so frickin' weird when it comes to social interactions. I keep getting pushed to interact with people around their mid to late 30s with TEENAGERS, but I also don't have much connection with people in their early to mid 20s whose brains are fried by TikTok and brainrot.

e.g. a lady who said she feels "lonely", but then thinks the man should always pay the bill on a date.

Or another lady who thinks society has no values anymore, but then romanticizes medieval chivalry codes (this is not even being conservative, it's another level).
