I found Cranefly Orchids! Native to most of America's eastern half and easy to identify in the winter because they're one of the few plants with green leaves. The underside is a bright purple. They prefer shady forests. Can you find any in your yard or nearby forested park? #GAnatives

The Phersophone Period is less than 10 hours of daylight. The timing is different for different latitudes, but the effect is the same: plants stop growing. While the official Phersophone Period is over for my home, my personal 'The sun IS coming back' happens with 11 hours of sunlight — Feb. 14.

Privet is invasive in Georgia and hosts plagues of whitefly families. My La Mancha goats love eating privet! Every year, I cut more branches, decreasing their food costs, decreasing the eventual whitefly population and decreasing the number of invasives in my yard. #goatsofbluesky

I cleaned out the three bluebird boxes in my yard. Bluebirds scout out nest areas before moving in, so I like to finish this in December/January for any early home hunters. Sometimes I pretend to be a put-out property manager while I clean the last tenants' gross debris.
