- Eric Gottwald, @aflcio.org making the case on the distributional impacts of trade policy and the role of collective bargaining at today's @oecdtrade.bsky.social workshop.

TUAC welcomes OECD's "To Have and Have Not" report on inequality, but warns its approach understates systemic factors.

The artificial division between what's "beyond" and "within" individual control oversimplifies reality and portrays structural problems as personal choices.

What’s the bigger threat now? It's not inflation, but high interest rates and under-investment.

Today's OECD Interim Economic Outlook forecasts slower growth (2.9% in 2026) and rising joblessness in major economies, yet still pushes fiscal “discipline”.

📊 On #InternationalEqualPayDay, TUAC responds to the OECD's latest gender equality report showing women still earn 11% less than men – a mere 8 percentage point improvement since 1995. TUAC calls for stronger pay-equality frameworks and proper collective bargaining rights.

– Veronica Nilsson, TUAC General Secretary

🚨 TUAC responds to OECD Tax Policy Reforms 2025: Governments raised corporate rates for the second consecutive year, yet expanded exemptions that erode the tax base. This contradictory approach weakens revenue when public investment needs are greatest. #TaxJustice #OECD

Brazil's proposed 2% wealth tax on fortunes exceeding $1 billion could raise 250-300 billion USD annually from just 3,000 individuals. #L20 #FiscalJustice #FiscalSpace
The numbers tell the story: corporate tax rates have collapsed from over 40% in the 1980s to just 23% in 2023, whilst the annual SDG financing gap has reached 3-4 trillion USD. Progressive taxation is key to ensuring states have fiscal space for public services.
"While billions struggle to meet basic needs, a small part of the world's population holds an ever-increasing share of global wealth. Today, the top 1% owns more than 45% of global wealth, but they often pay lower tax rates than the bottom 90%." - Veronica Nilsson today at L20 🧵

Trade policy alone isn’t enough.

It must be part of a broader strategy of coordinated fiscal, industrial, labour and social policies to protect workers from market volatility and prevent a race to suppress wages for corporate gain. #L20
